2201 Tasting Notes
I drank this yesterday as part of my chronology but never logged it.
As always, it remains a favorite. I like the black tea blend on this tea, which is really essential for enjoying this tea because the flavoring is rather subtle. Nice orangey citrus to keep things interesting. This tea also always reminds me of Mongolia because I first bought it as a box of sachets in a grocery in Ulaanbaatar and drank it often at my hostel there.
Preparation
Hmmm. The first sips of this were somewhat odd to me. This has always been my number one Earl, but today it tasted off. So disappointing. It’s like suddenly the keemun base isn’t working for me. And there’s not enough bergamot either. This has got to be a fluke. That said, I still drank the whole cup, so it wasn’t that bad. But it wasn’t what I was expecting, either.
Preparation
I got this tea a while ago and didn’t even expect that much of it, but it turned out to be really awesome (which cannot necessarily be said of the rest of this company’s tea).
I love the rose and passionfruit in this, and all the flavors just come together well. It’s slightly sweet and very smooth, and the base tea is substantial enough to give it some heft. I still find this very tasty and it’s a nice variant of Earl Grey to have around.
Preparation
Every time Vente-Privee has a sale for Fauchon, this tea is sold out by the time I get there, no matter how early. I am doomed to never get a proper tin of this tea! This time, though, there was another item that included a small tin of this tea along with some tiny pots of confiture. Sure, why not?
So glad I got more of this tea, even if it is a tiny tin (side note: the tiny tin is adorable! I love it). It’s red fruits, but it might just be my favorite red fruits tea. For one, the light touch of lemon adds a brightness to it. The fruits are fresh and bright, not dark and jammy like they can sometimes get in these blends. Just smelling this brings a smile to my face, which I suppose is the point of a happiness tea.
Preparation
A brief halt in my chronology for this new tea! I was so excited to see this one come up for sale on Vente-Privee since it seemed like it was one of the only ones that didn’t get stocked by TJ Maxx/Winners earlier. The reason I really wanted this one is that it is supposed to be Earl Grey with shortbread flavors!
I agree with ifjuly that this is a floral bergamot. In the best possible way! Works for me because I love floral EGs. I also find this nicely citrusy, without any pith-like bitterness. Unfortunately I also think I slightly underleafed this cup somehow, as it seems a bit weak overall. Also there is not much cookie flavor, although I get the feeling it is there waiting to come out. I will definitely have to try it with more leaf. But nonetheless I very much enjoy it as is, so I am pleased with my purchase.
Preparation
I got this tea in a swap quite a while ago, but it has been hoarded of course. Now I remember why (and why I gave it an 91). So delicious! Even though I love a lot of florals I am not huuuuuge on violet things for some reason, but this one is blended so nicely with the cassis (more black currant!) and the almondy cookie flavors that it works for me. Once again, one of the few flavored green teas that I really enjoy these days (hot, anyway). This one will be gone before the Macaron Mangue Jasmin version, but I think I love them both equally.
Preparation
Lychee, you’re next! Last of my re-stocked Harney teas, except for Paris, which I already blew threw and no longer have in my cupboard. Again, this is still my favorite lychee black tea, despite having tasted a few of them by now. Harney often does a single fruit-flavored black tea so well! This tastes like ripe, lovely lychees, and once again the base is substantial but not too robust. Love!
Preparation
I am being so bad about logging teas. Sometimes it’s hardest to log teas you love, teas that you’ve already logged many times before. What more is there to say? But I want to keep track of this cupboard activity that I have embarked in, so I need to log them.
I love black currant, and this is still my favorite black currant tea. I restocked with 4oz of this almost a year ago and I probably still have 3.5, but that’s ok because I know this will age well. Tasty black currant on a yummy black base. What more could you ask for?
Preparation
This tea is the most logged tea in my cupboard currently, and it’s only 3 notes behind Paris for most logged tea ever. Considering how often I drink the both of them when traveling and how often I don’t bother to log them, their numbers should likely be much higher.
Still love this one a ton. Still entranced by it’s mix of stone fruits and honey. Still a tea I could drink every day and be happy with it every day.
Preparation
Guess what time it is? Harney time! As I get more recent in this chronology I start hitting “runs” of tea, like this one, when I bought a big restock order of Harney teas and so I have a number of them to drink through in a row. But I also haven’t drank them in a long time, so it’s nice to have at them again!
Ahhh roses. I will never fail to recommend this tea when someone is looking for an exceptionally rosey tea. In my opinion this one can’t be beat. I love some other rose blacks as well, but for falling into a pile of roses, this is your tea. The very definition of “lovely.”
