31Jan end of month numbers 179 9307g
29Feb end of month numbers 172 9319g
31Mar end of month numbers 159 8748g
04Apr Tealyra order 166 9397g
24Apr San Francisco 176 10046g

I didn’t bring back as much from San Francisco as I had feared – and brought back ZERO pu’erh so that’s a good thing.
I bought some from Lupicia a couple from Red Blossom one from Vital Tea and several from Imperial Tea Court. Imperial Tea was by far (not even close) my favorite tea place in San Fran.

New goal – no new teas until I’m back under 9000g

I think you kept things pretty well under control. Congrats. What made Imperial Tea Court your favourite?

Dexter said

China Town shops were a massive disappointment. Total tourist trap and the clerks either didn’t know anything about tea or were just saying whatever they thought they needed to say to make the sale. I was told that unsmoked Lapsang does not exist (not we don’t carry it) even though I have it from at least 5 sources – Da Hong Pao is a black tea (?) – in my world it’s one of the most famous Oolong teas….. Green tea should be steeped at just under boil. Those are just some of the worst things I was told or I over heard them telling other people.

Imperial Tea Court was a breath of fresh air after that. Polite, professional, friendly, knowledgeable staff. I sat and had pu’erh (with snacks) gong fu style – so nice. Good selection, nice atmosphere – would recommend it to anyone who lives or is visiting there.

Dexter said

Lupicia was ok – but I like shops that are less formal. The clerks were OVERLY polite (I want to say subservient). They had tea made and were handing out samples and did offer to make something else if I wanted to sample it, but I didn’t I just chose my shopping list and left. A little more friendly – ask questions, have a conversation (rather than “serving”) could have led to more sales. This is just my opinion and how I felt at the time…..

Dexter said

Asha is probably a really good place, but everytime I walked by it was either closed or I didn’t have time to spend there. I did get an iced blood orange oolong to go – and it was really tasty.

yyz said

It sounds like it was a nice welcoming experience at imperial Tea court.

The dhp thing doesn’t suprise me. I’ve seen it before. It seems that there seems to be discussion about the classification of several Wuyi teas. I’ve seen zheng Shan xiao zhong classified as an Oolong before as well.

Dexter said

OK fair enough – and that could have been an interesting discussion. It wasn’t up for discussion. DHP is black “everyone knows that”. I’m not pretending that I know everything, and am totally open to other opinions – but this was a condescending comment that I don’t buy from a staff member who was more interested in curing all your health issues than knowing about the tea. Shrug – that’s how I felt…

yyz said

I understand and if an interaction left me feeling like that I would probably not buy from them either.

Way over budget and the weight thing is out of control again. Would like to get back into the 165 range and 9200g by the end of the month. That might be a little aggressive but need to regain control. No new tea until under 9000g or better yet new purchases can’t put me over 9000g……

February: 110 teas 6475g
March: 101 teas 6030g

That number will be back up mid may when my order from YS comes in, and i may place a couple orders to stock up on fruit teas…still though, trending down and “ahead of schedule”

Honey, I’m Home!!
Little Terri reminded me that I really need to get back to work on my sipdowns!
So today I finally updated my Tea Database. I have a total of 368 teas in my cupboards.
I haven’t purchased any tea for awhile, and I’m not allowed to order any tea until I drink up some of the teas I have, because face it, when the zombie apocalypse starts, the one thing I won’t run out of for a very long time is Tea!
I’m not going to weigh things, that would be too much work, but I am hoping to make June a major sipdown month. I have a number of teas that are getting close to zilch, plus a box full of samples from Sil, so see you in the morning!

Sil select said

good thing….another box for you half full haha

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo….
I’ve just barely started on you box, dammit!!
Oh well, I guess I’d better get this show on the road…after I drink this next cup of tea…

February: 110 teas 6475g
March: 101 teas 6030g
April: 85 teas 5585g
May: 90 teas 5535g

Up a few teas from April, but still trending down in terms of weight, so I’m ok with that. Also meeting my sipdown goals in terms of numbers. I’ve got a few more teas inbound in June that will increase my numbers again but i’m hoping i can still continue the trend of getting the weight down.

I bow to your amazingness! I guess I’m finally at a point where I could drink one tea per day, just enjoy it a variety of ways, multiple cups, and then never drink it again for a year, right? At one time that was actually a goal for me, and here I am, sitting in that place, more or less. But of course there are so many wonderful teas, especially black teas, that I want to drink often, so I may never get back down to 90 teas, or even 100. We’ll see! Meanwhile, my hat is off to you!

Sil select said

terri…i’m doing it more out of necessity than anything. Have to save money after wedding and everything last year, and IF i should decide to have a kid soonish, i’d rather not have a ton of teas sitting there that i potentially can’t or won’t drink. :)
