Your Top Tea Picks for 2014?

I suppose this comes a bit late, but I’ve spent the greater part of my year so far organizing tea events and anticipating/celebrating the lunar new year. Finally catching my breath.

I started a custom this year of doing a top teas list for the previous year. I picked one from each major type. I consider scented, flavored, or blended teas all in the same sort of category, so I just labeled that one “scented”, and I split green tea up into Chinese style (pan-fired) Japanese style (steamed) and matcha, since I feel those three are all very distinct major types that don’t really compare to one another.

Have you had any of these?

Here’s the list:

What teas would you pick for your best teas of the year for last year?

I have a best in ripe Puerh, 2008 Song of Chi Tse from Berylleb King Tea.

Ooooh, I should try that. I have had pretty good luck with Taiwan oolong from Berylleb.

Berylleb is out of this one but Yunnan Sourcing has them on the China site.

I agree with your Japanese green choice. Obubu really has something going. Beautiful Taiwan Tea’s BaoZhong would be my choice for oolong.

Great list!

Thanks! Last year was my first year trying Japanese green teas, but I definitely had a wonderful time exploring Obubu’s selections. I bought their big sampler pack that comes with many different teas and I liked so many of them. The Autumn Moon sencha is just so mellow and relaxing. I always get a good feeling while drinking it, and it makes delicious houjicha if you roast it. I was really glad to have discovered Obubu and look forward to trying more of their teas.
