Best Monthly Clubs?

It seems that a lot of different tea companies have a “tea of the month” club.. I’m interested in joining some to get a nice monthly variety of teas, but I don’t know which ones! I’m looking for ones with a good value and a wide selection. Any recommendations?

My bias is toward Canadian companies, which may either be too annoying (shipping across the border, ugh), or an amazing deal (exchange rate is VERY favourable for USD right now) depending on how you want to look at it. :) Tea Sparrow is my favourite (http://www.teasparrow.com/) but Amoda’s is also pretty popular (http://amodatea.com/pages/the-monthly-box).

I looked into Tea Sparrow and I saw chocolate teas and ones with nuts/coconut in the past two months. I’m afraid that I wouldn’t like half of the box every month!

That’s why I don’t do any of the wide variety boxes.

Really depends what kind of teas you like/want to try and your budget. There’s clubs as low as $15, and others $50 a month.

I’m in love with the White2Tea club, but is mostly pu’er. http://www.white2tea.com/white2tea-monthly-tea-club-subscription-club/

The Yunnan Sourcing tea club looks great too and there’s lots of options. http://yunnansourcing.com/en/content/21-yunnan-sourcing-tea-club-learn-more

Other than Amoda, Handmade tea is interesting looking as well. https://handmadetea.com/

There is also Simple Loose Leaf (for more sample like sizes) http://www.simplelooseleaf.com/

I got reviews on Simple Loose Leaf and White2tea http://oolongowl.com/tag/monthly-tea-box/

I know a lot of people like YS (I like their teas too), but is their club worth it? It seems like it’s a lot of money per month, so I’m wondering if the quality is worth it.

In my opinion and to my preference, YS carries some of the best teas. I absolutely love their Sheng and they have amazing oolong. It all comes down to your personal preference and budget. There are a lot of companies tea clubs that have wonderful tea, but it can be pricey. If you are just exploring and beginning your search, I would pick something simple and middle ground.

Really? hmmm I’m sorry to hear that. That is pricey and I wouldn’t be happy either. I hear the best of things from the premium club.

I’ve been doing the YS dark tea of the month club and so far I really like it. The selections are good and you get a mix of dark puerh, black/red teas and roasted oolong. It’s neat to try different teas that I wouldn’t have selected for myself. I don’t know that it’s a lot cheaper than choosing them yourself but for now I like getting a random mix of stuff from them. Major downside for me is the incredibly long shipping time from China (takes over a month)

Ditto Teabrat. One month I sort of figured up the retail costs of what we got and there was some savings, especially considering shipping. Not a huge discount but some. I have been really happy with this club and have tried a lot of them. Have you gotten your box this month?

@Marzipan – I did get the February shipment but March hasn’t shipped yet (for me, anyway)

The main benefit of the club is getting a new treat every month, but the frequent shipping adds cost. From the perspective of the vendor, giving free shipping is a big discount, especially from China. I haven’t joined clubs because I’m willing to only get one shipment every 4 months or so in order to choose the teas myself.

I was tempted but the loooonnnggg shipping from China to here (6 weeks plus) made me stay away.. (and besides, with the current low euro rates I’d be mad…..).maybe some other time. I would love to be in a EU based tea club. Fast, and no shipping issues… :)
I agree, tea clubs should offer excellent (and hard to get) teas, that would normally not be in your shopping card.
I am pleased with the complimenary box from Curious Teas so far, they offer 2 teas of 50gr. each monthly. I have decided I will sign up for that one (probably dark – which offers anything from red to black teas, roasted oolongs and pu ehr teas…)

I am going to start out by tooting my own (hopefully it will be my own!) horn and say: 52Teas has a great subscription – you can support my kickstarter here and subscribe at the same time: http://kck.st/1wX4ECU

I have some experience with other tea of the month type clubs. I love Amoda Tea. Definitely my favorite. Some others have mentioned them so you probably don’t need a link.

I also can’t say enough good about Simple Loose Leaf. I love this company. They’re really awesome in terms of customer service. Very responsive. They also have been adding some really good teas to their lineup.

I also have been impressed with the teas I’ve tried from White 2 Tea.

Another really awesome monthly service is the Yunomi Tea Discoveries Club. Here is my 2 part blog post about last month’s delivery:

There are really a lot of great companies out there offering monthly service options.

Yunomi is an amazing company, truly a great place for sencha or any japanese greens :)
