Every time I happen to search up tea this site was in the top finds so I decided to finally join! I’ve drank tea all my life mostly ginseng, regular green teas and the occasional oolongs but have recently re-acquainted myself with the world of tea and the tea culture.
For now my favorite tea happens to be the milk oolong (jin xuan?) oolong that I had from my friend when they went to China a few years back so I’m trying various types of oolongs for the time being.
I’m also getting in Japanese and Korean green teas too as I whisk up a bowl of matcha every morning before starting my day and drink Korean corn tea at work (I don’t know the name of the corn tea at the moment.)
Looking forward to learning about the teas and so many variations from this site keeps me wanting so much more tea! haha
Hi and welcome! I don’t know what to say to these things. Oh, Korean teas are amazing – I have a bunch from Hankook teas and enjoyed them all so far! I love looove Hwang Cha – have you tried it? You’ll love it if you love oolong.
/tea drunkenly stumbles out
Welcome! I love a nice Jin Xuan as well.
I’m going to be looking for one that doesn’t have artificial flavorings to make the “milky” flavor for the Jin Xuan and have my eye on a few of them after reading a bunch of reviews here.
I’d go with either Mandala or Teavivre for Jin Xuan. Neither have artificial flavor (though Teavivre sells one with and one without, so make sure you pick the right one).
I just purchased the un flavored Jin Xuan from Teavivre and cant wait to try it after reading all the reviews about it
Welcome Matt! I hope you enjoy our lovely tea community.
Teavivre is always a good place to go for Chinese teas, but for Jin Xuan I go to Eco Cha. They have some beautiful Oolong!
Welcome to Steepster! I am fond of Milk Oooong too. :)
Thanks! Any recommendations for sourcing Milk Oolong or Oolong that may taste similar? I’ve read that Phoenix Oolongs might be somewhat similar to the Milk Oolongs but I haven’t tried it yet myself.
Tao Tea Leaf has a very “buttery” milk oolong and The Louisville Tea Company has a milk oolong with a nice mild creamy flavor. I enjoy both. I can also recommend Mandala’s version.
There are so many I enjoy. Zen Tea, Mountain Tea, Green Terrace Tea and Tealux all have Jin Xuans I adore. There are also tons of oolongs that have buttery qualities to them similar to Jin Xuan oolongs.
Which other oolongs would have similar qualities to that of the Jin Xuan in your opinion?
I second Mandala’s as well.
Thank you all for your helpful responses! It looks like I now have a bunch of Jin Xuan Oolong to try from many different sources which I definitely don’t mind doing ^^
If anyone has any other suggestions please post them!
Matt, have you tried Premium Silky Green from Bird Pick Tea and Herb? I would love to know how you like it compared to the one you had before that left such an impression. The company has it listed as a green, but so many people on here have tried it and we all agree it is a milk oolong! It is spectacular to me, though I know one reviewer said they thought it was “scented” and not just natural milky flavor.
I have not tried that tea as of yet. I was actually looking at their site yesterday and that tea caught my attention. I will eventually get around to trying it soon enough though.
I took some to a young man who worked at Teavana and he loved it and ordered it. He later got a job at Tin Roof Teas and shared some with the owner and the two of them were talking about how much they loved it last time I was in. It really smells and tastes like buttered popcorn! If I had some fresh, I would send it to you, but hopefully you will get to try it soon.
Nice although you made the tea sound like Korean Corn tea hehe. I’m going to wait until my shipment of other Jin Xuan teas gets here first before buying so many teas that I can’t even keep track of them any more =P
So far I’m waiting for the Jin Xuan from Teavivre (flavored and non-flavored varieties) various Balhyocha teas from Morning Crane Tea and a few teas from TWG Tea (my friend bought a bunch of stuff from there and is sharing them)
Today I received my package from Hibiki-an which included the Superior Tea Tasting Set and the Hyokuro Karigane Super Premium teas of which I’m happily sipping on right now hehe
