Looking for a small travel gaiwan set

Anyone have any preferred vendors? I’m not looking to spend tons of money but I’d like something nice with gaiwan and 4 cups at minimum. Something I can pack that won’t take up much space but maybe comes in a case where I won’t have to worry tons about packing it in bubble wrap. :)

I personally want this one: http://www.amazon.com/Gaiwan-Tea-Set-red-dragon/dp/B00FNEPGZ2
They say it has a travel case, but it’s not in the picture.

I do like the bold red.

I like dragons :)

Then you will receive some “Dragon Spirit” k.

I have one similar to that, same style different pattern, the only problem is the way the Cha Hai is set up, it has a tendency to drip so you have to be careful while pouring…or I am just really clumsy!

This site always seems to have some. They are packed in a tea tray. You can buy through their site with PayPal. http://www.tommyteastore.com/Bamboo-Tea-Tray_c16.htm
Or aliexpress which seems to be more expensivehttp://www.aliexpress.com/store/group/Tea-Tray/407327_211418637.html

Oh, the boxes are gorgeous. And I like that some look like they are packed in something foam-like. That will be a dangerous site to look around on… thanks!

You’re welcome. This was on the Ali site. http://www.aliexpress.com/item-img/Free-shipping-Ceramic-White-and-Blue-QingHuaCi-GaiWan-ChaHe-Tea-Cups-in-storage-bag-KungFu/769408261.html#

The web site is new for them. The seller is a tea wholesaler associated with some anxi tea farmers. Not everything on the ali site is on the website yet but if you contact them they could probably arrange something through the website.

Ooo… that is a pretty set.

Love the set with double happiness cut out on the tea tray… and the blue and white. One caution, the tea cups I did see labeled were 25 ml, which is thimble size. I think 50 ml is a better cup size!

I like the kyusu style travel gaiwan, I just gave away mine to my sister though. Oolong Owl has a lovely Ruyao glaze set here

That’s a neat idea – a crackle that adds color as you add tea.

That is one beautiful gaiwan set!

That one is cute. I like that the pot has a lid with the set. Most are open.

Oh wait sorry – I neglected to read the four cup minimum. Mine only has two.

I love the finish on that one. And I like the sets with the built in strainer. Four cups is only for right now since I’m going to be traveling with 4 of us. For just me, that’s a nice set…

I travel a LOT and I am a minimalist packer and I love how compact it is.

Crimson lotus tea has a few. I have two of them. Have brought them to work. Very compact. Only thing is store is offline right now.

More pricey than I’m looking at but I love the different shape of the cups!

I’ve got this one and love it! I take it with me when climbing mountains for tea on the summit, as well on vacations and trips away from home.

Do you find the cups to be a decent tasting size?

awilsondc said

Yeah, the cups are normal size maybe a little small at 38cc (avg cup is closer to 50cc) but they seem fine to me.

Thanks for all the recommendations! I ended up with this one with the butterfly:
http://www.musiccitytea.com/products/travel-mini-tea-set-with-bamboo-tea-tray-39-98

And yes, the cha hai has a very small spout. It’s not just you, Amanda! I cannot be neat when pouring from it. Which means that I need more sets to try. :) And a larger tea tray. :)

I think my next one will be something like this but it won’t be for travel:
http://www.jkteashop.com/sowbread-flower-yellow-glaze-porcelain-teaware-set-p-804.html

The spout does look very tiny xD The travel set that I have has the exact same tiny spout. It proves difficult and I end up spilling a bit of my brew but it gets the job done while on the move.

I just read a review of a similar one on Yunnan Sourcing and it was suggested to pour from the side rather than the spout. I’ll have to try that.

hmmm I’ll try that as well :) Not sure why you’d build a cha hai with that spout then ask people to use it incorrectly for better results…

Nicole said

It was a reviewer suggestion for how he got around his dribbling issues. :)

I can report that pouring from the side is a bunch of hooey. It causes even worse spillage than using the spout. :)

hahahah good to know xD
