Yunomi Group Order: Box Up for Grabs 6/9/15

Thanks everyone :)

I was actually shocked when I came home… I found this: http://postimg.org/image/sica13e23/

The craziest part about that picture is that is roughly 70% of what came in… I found many surprising swaps I was not expecting :)

Welcome back! Woohoo! Tea for daaaays!

For all those in the US who have paid by now, shipping labels and I will be sending them out tomorrow.

Unfortunately it’s telling me that it cost $29 shipping to Canada online and I know that is BS so I will have to go mail them out in person.

I am still awaiting payment from nine people right now and hopefully that number decreases quickly. I’m also learning how to budget group buys more effectively :). I’ll probably only come out short of $60 which isn’t bad considering the experience that this has provided, but next time I know more about shipping cost and supply cost.

I hope you are all looking forward to these. I’ve only tried one of teas so far but I won’t be doing any reviews or making comments I see others have received their boxes.

Shipping to Canada may well be $29 depending on the dimensions and the speed the package goes. Shipping to us is ridiculous, even from within Canada! That’s why I don’t jump on these sort of things. (That and the tons of tea at home, haha!)

That would be absolutely stupid…
The last package I sent to Canada was $8 and it was 8ounces and about the same size.
$29 is just absurd.

Good news about that : http://postimg.org/image/ubav99051/

The post office told me that it would cost $35 to track or insure these… are you serious???

Uniquity said

Mayve it’s the tracking/insurance that makes it so outrageous, I guess. Although even $10 seems like a lot (when I order from a business). If I’m paying for it, $10 USD is more like $12CAD and I’m already over-paying for the tea thanks to the exchange rate. Obviously this is a different situation. :) You’ll have to take a pic of the packed up tea army!

Well, hopefully someone will post pictures of what they receive so you will see :)
I think it’s worth it though considering it is a 9ounce package. While it’s not all tea, imagine receiving 8 ounces of tea from someone- wouldn’t it be worth $12CAD to ship?

(Worth it not being what I would consider a desired amount, I won’t even try to evaluate fairness)

That’s the difference for me. Swaps/gifts are very different. I have only ever done a few swaps because I over-committed and realized that I couldn’t afford to keep doing them but the last one I sent was $17 to send to US. It wasn’t a big parcel, but Canada Post is pretty pricey, and that was…3 years ago so I imagine it is even more expensive now.

I think you’re doing a great thing and I’m not questioning the value in non-commercial ventures. :)

Important, Please Read
Many of you will see your package arriving early next week (those who have paid) and there is information that will be very beneficial for you: I recently brewed a cup of batabatacha out of curiosity to see how the Toyama Prefecture made a pu-erh like tea that was fermented. What I brewed was a cup of ‘eh’ so I decided to read online what was supposed to make cost more than many other teas and found out that unlike pu-erh this tea steeps for quite a while. Ten minutes to be exact. Yes, you read that correctly: TEN MINUTES.
https://yunomi.us/15670/brew-batabatacha/

I went ahead and brewed a pot today after reading that information with even more curiosity. I used a tea pot with water at 195degrees for 9 minutes and thirty seconds. I can attest that this method does not produce a bitter pot of tea, nor does it darken the color of the liquor which is quite interesting.

I hope you enjoy this unique tea, few people have even been exposed to it.

I have emailed this as well. I do apologize for not researching about this to have any information provided within the package itself, this is completely new and surprising information for me. If you have any other questions about steeping for any of the teas feel free to contact me via email.

Thanks for letting us know about that tea. I would have never steeped any tea 10 min so that’s very useful info. I really look forward to trying it out. Very excited the package is on the way!

I have to add another correct :/
I said early next week and forgot about Canadians, sorry about that. Packages have been shipped to Canada, but I doubt it’ll make it there by early next week; if I had superpowers I would get it to you quicker at no charge, I swear.

Ubacat said

Looks like you do have superpowers after all since I got it today! ;-)

4 business days to Canada!!! Woohooo!
I know that in the states I’m able to get 2 day priority shipping now which has been nice :)

I would have been okay with waiting but it was a nice surprise! Two day shipping in the US is great. I’ve got a few Cdn sellers that are close by and ship within a few days when I order.

Something you all might want to try when you get your teas is steep the gyokuro as you would normally in a pot and then when it’s empty of liquid cover the recently brewed leaf with ice. You would leave the ice to melt and then come back to it for another session, but this time it would be a bit different. Gyokuro can be ice steeped and it’s quite nice, I’ve done it before, but it’d be nice to get to notice the difference between both methods.

Cold brewing is pretty great! I love it during the summer :)

Oh, also, some people also eat gyokuro when they are done brewing it which is another thing you can try with it :)

Yup that was the one :D

I hope I picked well… I kind of just got the most expensive since it was a group order :p

Its unbelievably amazing :)

You chose well

TEA SCOOP!!!! xP hahahah

Whatever that means :p

Thank you so much for this! It’s pretty amazing, and I’m super excited to dive in. This package really makes me want to go to the sakura festival next year. I have two comments.

The pink squishy thing with crystals- is this sakura tea (I’ve never had) and if it is, how do I Brew? eat? this? hahah

The next time you do one of these be careful about flavored teas. I had to air all the tea out because everything tasted and smelled like strawberries (ESP Genmaicha).

It is 100% sakura blossoms. I believe you shake the salt off and then brew it like a tea… I’ve yet to do this though, I just knew it would be unique so I got some.

Dang, I knew I would fail at a few things. It shouldn’t do anything to the YUNOMI teas since they were in their own bag, or was it that strong?

It was really strong. I haven’t tried all of them, but each dry leaf now carries a strong strawberry scent. I was able to descent a few of the roasted teas, but the greens are proving difficult.

I’m really excited to try the sakura :D

Damnit ,all that effort and I screwed some teas up. I was hoping to do better for my first group purchase :/

Mine is great!

I wouldn’t fret too much buddy xP

I just hate that I messed something up. I will go ahead and adjust the packaging for those who have yet to pay… but if I may question whoever is open to answer: At what point do I offer these to others who will buy them because I can’t let them sit around too long especially after having no communication. It would be one thing if it was one box, but I have over $100 of group order over here :/

I’d email those that RSVP’d a box saying, "you have three days (or however long you want to wait) to claim/pay for your tea. Then if there is no response I’d start selling.

I started using nontransparent, all-foil lined bags for any teas that have strong scents (Lapsangs, cinnamons, fruits, etc) as they seem to be pretty much smell-proof. The brown ‘Kraft’ bags will work too since they have an all-foil lined interior. Most pure unscented/unflavored teas are fine in those transparent ziploc bags. In fact this it the exact setup I am shipping your package in, which I am sending today!

I agree ^ Or double bagged works well, but Zack’s method seems to work best.

I have one extra box available (I only signed up 19 out of 20 to be safe) and A LOT of Japanese tea if anyone wants some just PM me.

Is the box still available?

The answer is yes/no. Not all the gift portion is available, but I do have the YUNOMI teas. Go ahead and follow me and I can PM you a list and you can let me know what appeals to you.
