Storing nuclear green oolongs

ok.

So i just finished watching a youtube video where the guy stores his nuclear green oolongs, TGY, etc in the freezer.

Anyone else do this?

he but the bags of loose tea all into a sealed plastic container and then stores in the freezer.

My sampler booklet from Den’s tea recommended that green teas be stored in the freezer before you open them, but not after.

Coffee and tea both do poorly in a freezer environment unless the moisture level in the leaves is extremely low AND it is 100% vacuum sealed.

The issue with moisture in the leaves: When you put leaves that have been exposed (even minimally) to humidity in the freezer, tiny crystals form and destroy the leaf structure, which leads to a less-than-great taste once you take it out.

The issue with non-vacuum-sealed tea: All of the moisture in the air inside the package will condense and adhere to the leaves, which creates the issue above.

The issue with even properly stored freezer tea: You have to let it completely reach room temperature before opening it or the cold leaves will pull the moisture out of the air and it will adhere to them, which also creates the issue above :P

In my personal opinion, the ideal way to store super green oolongs is vacuum sealed at room temperature. There is not a significant loss of freshness over the period between harvests even just using airtight packaging. Only real reason I can see to go to great lengths like that is if you want to buy a TON of tea that you will drink over the period of many years.
