Looking for a pastry-ish black tea, GF/Veg
Hi there,
I’m new here, nice to meet ya. :D
I was wondering if anyone could tell me of any good vegan and gluten free black pastry-ish teas? Bigelow Vanilla Caramel black tea was my favorite tea, but they use dairy esters. :(
Some of my other current favorites are well, earl grey of any variety really and Republic of Tea Vanilla Almond. I LOVE pastry flavors like cinnamon roll, coffee cake, apple fritters, bear claws, and am thoroughly obsessed with marzipan/almonds (but not like, roasted almond so much?), but being GF I often feel deprived of the pastries I’d be eating if I weren’t gluten intolerant. (I saw SpecialTeas has an almond cookie, looking for more information there.)
Any ideas? Thanks. :3
52teas does pastry flavours sometime, and Frank is usually about on the site; you should inquire about their ingredients. Hopefully he’ll notice the thread.
I was thinking him too, but didn’t suggest it cuz he doesn’t currently have any in stock.
Hmmm… Yeah, the danish blends are sold, although there are some pie/cake ones.
And it’s always good to know for the future.
His new Blueberry Zabaglione is similar to the Blueberry Cream Cheese Danish, you might give that a whirl.
Thanks for the suggestions! 52teas stuff does look decadent. Will drop him a line and find out. :3
Haven’t tried it yet, but American Tea Room has Brioche (not sure on the ingredients, either), but it has a short list here on it’s entry in Steepster.
Yes, Brioche from ATR, Almond Biscotti from Teavana, Almond Cookie from Cal Tea House, and that one from SpecialTeas are all very similar and pastry-ish. Also, The NecessiTeas has one called almond. I also like Tea Guys Green Walnut. Not sure one the ingredients of any, but that might get you going.
Per Frank 52teas are “natural, vegan, Kosher and gluten free flavors” unless otherwise specified (like the candy bits).
Thanks! I’m definitely going to be checking these out. :D
I got to wondering whether 52teas’ “malt flavoring” was gluten-free, since malt is usually made from barley. So I emailed Frank to ask, and got this reply:
“I double-checked with my flavors guy and ALL of our flavors are 100% Vegan and gluten-free.”
:-)
Does honey count? If honey is Ok try Mariage Freres Pleine Lune – almond, honey and spices, a very special tea.
Have you looked into Simpson and Vail’s Dessert teas?
