Too much tea? :(

I have recently gotten very sick and wondered if it is tea related. Maybe I drank too much tea, too often? Maybe over steeped once too much? Has anyone had similar experiences or heard of?

I once drank over 300ounces in a day… so I guess it depends on what you say by ‘too much’. Also, I didn’t get sick nor did the caffeine effect me negatively (that I know of)

Possibly. Too much flavored tea sometimes makes me feel a little queasy. Drinking green or green oolongs on an empty stomach can also make some people sick.

I don’t know, I was drinking tea everyday and wasn’t sure if it had something to do with me being sick. I guess I was drinking around 24 ounces a day, everyday. I wasn’t sure if it was because I went from black tea to a green (I tried Teavana’s Jeju Green Tea) or maybe because I over steeped it.

I had only had a couple of sips, but I suppose that with my IBS might be it. :(

Just want to figure out what I did wrong, so I don’t get sick again and I don’t have to give up my teas. :’(

It is possible that it could be caffeine making you sick. My gastroenterologist recommends I drink no more than two cups a day unless I drink lower caffeine teas such as greens. Try switching some of your tea to decaf and see if you are still sick.

I used to drink a lot of coffee, so I didn’t think caffeine could be the culprit. I had four or five espressos a day…would it be more than that @AllanK?

@boychik I did. I started drinking teas again and didn’t want it, anymore. I also thought it was healthier. I don’t think I’ve have coffee in a little over a month.

24oz of tea doesnt have amount of caffeine equal to 4-5 espresso. you have a caffeine withdrawal

So maybe you have too little tea ? I would still have a cup of coffee every day

I took the quiz and got a six out of ten. I wonder if that is it…even a month after I stopped drinking it.

did you drink a lot of green or green oolong? these ones give stomach aches if in large amounts. but 24oz a day for me is not a lot. its very little. everybody is different. go to the doctor. maybe you have something completely unrelated to tea

I had a couple of sips of Jeju. You’re right. Maybe it isn’t tea related. :)

A tea that is particularly good for your stomach is peppermint, especially peppermint that is high in peppermint oil. It helps my stomach issues immensely.

I like either peppermint or ginger. I think there’s a few places that even sell them mixed for maximized efficiency.

Define sick. Stomach issue? The runs? Headache? Feeling sore/tired?

Food poisoning has a pretty big window, like even 24 hours, so it could be anything there.

The craps? When I fed my Dad ripe pu’er once he said it made his stomach funny and made him go the bathroom (hahahaha). He felt alright an hour after though.

Other things could be caffeine withdrawal, like headache/irritability.

I wonder though, not that I want to test, if really bad tea can make one ill. I hear plenty of warnings of Sun Tea style brewing can harbor bacteria due to the temperature never getting hot enough to kill bacteria and time spent in that danger temperature.

I was vomiting for two and a half days and couldn’t keep anything, even water, down. I had bad headaches also. I don’t think it was food poisoning, but I suppose that could be a possibility. I had only had a salad and fruit before I had gotten sick and both were fresh.

If you had headache too it is likely a virus.

That sounds like a stomach flu. My son had it recently. Vomiting and couldn’t keep even sip of liquid. The doctor gave him a pill that stops it for 8hrs to hydrate him.

I don’t think so. No fever or shivers. No coughing, sneezing, mucus, etc.

I don’t think there’s always a fever with the stomach flu. My mother in law had it and was extremely ill for 3 days.

It probably wasn’t the tea but it never hurts to cut back and listen to your body. Everyone is different. Some have high caffeine tolerance and others low. I’m on the low side and have to watch my daily intake.
