A replacement for Simple Leaf's Dawn...

After casually tracking Steepster reviews, it seems several Steepsterites have identified other black teas with a cocoa note similar to Dawn: Tan Yang Te Ji from Tea Spring, Hawaii grown black from Samovar, Emperor Red from Premium Steap, Yixing Tea from Shang Tea. Any others that I have missed? Any comments about those teas?

I have tried the Samovar one and it was quite delicious but not necessarily cocoa-y and quite expensive as well ($25 for 25 grams and steeping parameters of 2 tbs for 16 ozs.)…

Correction: Golden Needle King by Shang tea, and Yixing tea by Teacuppa and maybe add Sinjhara by Golden Moon on the list…

I’m a big fan of Emperor’s Red, but I don’t think it tastes anything like Dawn. I thought that Winey Keemun from Grace Rare Teas tasted sort of like a Dawn-lite, but it does have its own thing going on.

Anyone hear anything about the Simple Leaf starting up again? Someone else importing Dawn?

Well I ordered some Emperor’s Red w/my recent Premium Steap order and can’t wait to try it.

I can’t wait to hear what you think! and also see what else you got :) :) :)

The Bouteaque Blue Mist from Eteaket reminds me a bit of Dawn.

Oh… and also, the Gong Fu Black from Zhi Tea reminds me a bit of Dawn. I think the Gong Fu Black may remind me more of Dawn than the Blue Mist… but both are amazing.

Hmm. both the Gong Fu black and the Emperor’s Red and the Tan Yang are are all from the Fuijian province…

I thought Life in Teacup’s Sun-Moon Lake tea from Taiwan had some similarities.
