Ruyao teapot question

I was thinking about purchasing this teapot from White2Tea:
http://www.white2tea.com/tea-shop/ruyao-triad-teapot-150-ml/

Because here’s the thing: I’d love a yixing pot, or a jianshui pot (or both… actually I want both), but I can’t buy just one because I’d need one for sheng and another for shu. I have been using a gaiwan for the longest time, but when I get a little tea smashed I tend to spill extremely hot water on myself because honestly I’m a spaz even when I’m not tea smashed. Which is also why I don’t want to drop serious bank on a yixing pot because it would be just a matter of time before I inadvertently smashed it to bits.

So the point of this post is to ask, can one use a Ruyao teapot for both sheng and shu? Or is that ill-advised?

The crazing (crackles) kind of glaze will hold a small amount of flavor, but nowhere near what unglazed clay would. I have a ru yao gaiwan that I use for pretty much everything. I think the staining of the crackles is more aesthetic than functional!

It’s fine to use for any tea. It won’t hold flavor like a yixing.

I only use my ru kiln/ru yao for dark teas, so ripe pu’er and blacks.

I do this purely for cosmetic reasons as the dark teas stains the cracks like a boss.

Same here! I just think it looks so cool when you use it for a darker tea :D

I ordered that same teapot from W2T, and also their Standard Ruyao Gaiwan just over a month ago. I’m yet to receive them though. I have two yixing’s (well one of them is still in transit), one each for Sheng and Shu. I plan to order at most one more yixing in the near future, say for roasted oolongs. I will be using the Ruyao Triad Teapot for oolong and black teas. As others have mentioned, you can use these for a mix of teas.

I have one of these pots and use it for anything. It’s a really great pot…I love it!

Looking back at my question, I didn’t articulate it very well (note to self: do not post here when tea drunk) but I think what I’m getting from everyone is that I can use the one pot for both sheng and shu and not worry about the shu messing with the flavor of the sheng. This was my main concern. Thanks everyone! :-)

you’ll love it :)
