Which of your tea

gear do you use most often?

Hands down the DAVIDsTEA Mason Jar that I use for cold brewing. I drink a cold brew daily using it. It was a gift from Keychange over a year ago and there’s not a day since I received it where it hasn’t been used.

Aside from that, probably my celadon Gaiwan. It was the first Gaiwan I ever got, and it gets used quite frequently though not quite daily. Other ‘contenders’ would be my various infuser mugs and chawan.

I have a cold brew pitcher from Lupica that I use every day to brew rooibos, herbals, and decaf for drinking with dinner by which I have stopped taking in any caffeine. I think they call it the Handy Cooler or something.

This week, I have managed to break my DT Steeper, or the thing has broken itself. The mechanism for plugging the thing until you place it on your cup or mug is now faulty, so the thing leaks. Even when I manage to stop it from leaking, the leaf now goes into my mug with the steeped tea. I am considering buying a new one as this was an easy and effective way of getting the job done.

Now, I am using my metal DT steepers.

I am considering buying a gaiwan for green teas and a yixing pot for oolongs as a gift for a cluster of accumulated occasions, but I am stalling.

So feedback would be most welcome.

Not sure how old it is but you could try reaching out to DT and see if they’ll replace it. I understand customer service isn’t as amazing as the past but they may still decide to help a tea lover out. :)

I love my Libre and when I had a leak, they were more than happy to help. Maybe, if you’re looking for a new travel tumbler, you could try that. There are a few different designs I’ve reviewed. That’s my favorite, because of the size and design. You can check my blog if you want to see the others.

Thank you both. I will try that and see how it goes. I’ll report back.

Well, today, I went into a DT and they replaced my steeper for me. Hurray! So thank you so much for having suggested that. They also suggested that I should take the thing apart and wash it more regularly. (It was quite stained from black tea. From comments from others here, I understand that this is not at all uncommon. sigh )

Awesome that they replaced it! I have heard that customer service isn’t quite as good, but I’ve always had excellent experiences with Davids Tea. They didn’t need to replace that for you, but I am so pleased they did.

My easy gaiwan. For pretty much everything except matcha.

Western-style steepers (infuser basket in a mug). Love em.

On a regular basis I use my variable temp kettle, as well as my gravity steeper from teavana (very comparable to the one at DT and elsewhere), and large finum brewing baskets.

Oh, also my curve travel mug from davids, although I’m currently determining which teas travel best in it so it’s sort of being used sparingly/experimentally.

Depends. My tasting set is what I use most. I use my Libre when I go out. And I use my Bonavita whenever I can (it let’s me control water temp to the degree!!).

Besides the variable temperature kettle, it is probably the tea table. Every thing like my cups, pitchers and steeping vessels are placed on top of the tea table. I have many different cups and steeping vessels, but they all end up in the same place.

At home, my navy blue bubble teapot (with steeper) and variable temp kettle. We have dozens of mugs that we cycle through, but there are definite faves.

My Bonavita variable temp kettles are the first and most necessary tea equipment, followed by my faucet water filter (home) or brita pitcher filter (at work).
After that, it depends on where I am. At work, my 6 oz mug and forlife open basket steeper are virtually always used. At home, my easy gaiwan and the simple white porcelain tea cup that came with the TeaAve aroma set are most often used, in conjunction with my creamer-turned-fair mug and tea strainer.
Lately, I’ve been having matcha every morning, so my lone chawan has been getting daily use!

Bosch styline vari temp kettle. 70/80/90/100 makes it a cool kettle. Annoying beep, so much so, theres a youtube showing you how to remove the speaker! You can set and forget and it will hold the temperature for half an hour until use.

then a toss up between my Gaiwan set & Bodum yo-yo infuser glass.
