Gaiwan question...
Today I received a gaiwan from a fellow steepster and noticed the the inside edges of the lid are rough, on purpose…Im thinking that is to help catch loose leaf that would otherwise slip through. Is this the case? My old one that I broke the lid on was as smooth as a babies bottom and I would get lots of leaf in my tea cup…so far with this one, very little leaves. Is this just a better made gaiwan?
It may not be made like that for a particular reason. It may be just how it was made. Glad you got it. A strainer will solve your problem of getting leaf in your cup, do you have one? You can get them cheap from any number of retailers.
It just seemed odd, bit ingenious at the same time. It DOES catch leaf, for sure!

The grooves to catch loose leaves strikes struck me as brilliant.
