Another nice post by MarshalN – this one’s about Misty Peaks: http://www.marshaln.com/2016/01/storing-puer-tea-you-are-the-final-master/

Don’t expect any real answer from Misty Peaks, though.

Yes, Misty Peaks Tea invented the tea ball. Y’know, like how Chick-Fil-A invented the chicken sandwich.

Yep, it’s that time of the year, and they did it, again: http://mistypeakteas.com/2016-spring-puer-tea/

Cakes from Spring 2016 available on March 23. Ships from the USA, too.

I wonder why all the other puerh vendors are always so late…!?! We all know the early bird catches the worm, right?

It says they are rated #1 down below… Just accept that they are providing what others cannot!

Read the entire page you posted. They are accepting pre-orders for teas to ship in April.

bef said

@Dr Jim I read the entire page before I posted this, but they might have modified it in the meantime, maybe after seeing my comment here (we know they’re following that thread)…? Look on Google Cache, earlier, the tea was ready to ship.

That being said, maybe I misread earlier, it’s possible. But anyway they now state that it “will be shipped on April 4”. Which still doesn’t make any sense. Plus, they already published pictures of their 2016 cakes. So I still stand by what I said in my previous post, they are (again) being caught lying to their clients.

AllanK said

Even April 4 seems early to me. Maybe it’s winter harvest puerh. In order to process the tea and ship it to California in time to ship out on April 4 they need to have an extra early harvest. Maybe they had a harvest during the tail end of winter.

bef said

@AllanK: Agreed.

No old arbor is available at this time of the year (if you’re following a few vendors on Instagram, you already guessed that).

And you can’t sell 200 years-old material from Yiwu for $55/200g. We all know that only Master Zhou would do that.

tea123 said

It currently says “Harvested during the villages first freezing winter in decades”

AllanK said

I thought you were joking but it does say that.

bw85 said

Perhaps it could just be blind ignorance/gullibility on the part of misty peaks. The “farmers” tell him “oh yes, late January to early February is the early spring harvest” in order to sell a tea that has little market value otherwise. And MP believes the farmer because of course he wouldn’t lie to him… They’re friends! Spring tea harvested smack dab in the middle of winter….

bef said

@bw85 I don’t think they’re being ignorant. They keep lying repeatedly.

Take that post of a teapot on a tea tray on their Instagram feed. Someone asked if they would sell these pots, and they replied that they had “no plans to part with it anytime soon”. Thing is, this picture is from an image bank. When you get to the point where you feel the need to make up stories for that kind of thing…

Have you tried Misty peaks tea? It is really good, among the best young sheng you can obtain for that price.

I am very impressed and disturbed by how much energy a few individuals put into constant attacks against Misty Peak.

One person has taken it quite far, attacking weekly with accusations and threats, commenting throughout the internet, stalking me and people around me, trying to dig up dirt, going even as far as spending hours searching Google Caches and researching which of our photos is a stock photo (1 out of 94 photos) and dedicating a complete Instagram to either attacking us or buddying up with other tea companies.

This thread was not coincidently started, but also messages and comments around the internet and on Instagram and forums across the web are started or fueled by this person as well.

I have no ill will towards others in the tea world; we are not competition as we all have different focuses. I respect what Yunnan Sourcing did to open the door to great tea and the beauty of White 2 Tea’s products and the educational practices of Crimson Lotus Tea. We are not scheming or competing for customers, we are just guys who like great tea and built platforms to share it.

People like this, whatever motivation they have to spend so much of their time on negativity and anger, have tarnished the tea world recently and created a tremendous uproar and negative turn in what used to be something so beautiful. I have written some of these people personally, offered phone calls and answered dozens of questions, later to see they post our conversations and emails on the Internet as if there is something to show.

Thank you all for the consideration and support.

PS- Try our tea, it is outstanding. www.MistyPeakTeas.com

I’d like to know more about that IG that was used to bully you with other companies. Same with “threats”, that sounds serious, but maybe you’re mixing things up with your marketing director threatening people. Not sure either about the phole calls and posting e-mails online, you might also be mixing people.

Somehow you post long answers without answering any the facts that are discussed – i.e. how can you sell old arbor spring tea on April 4?

Nicholas,
With much respect to you and other tea company owners, this is something that has to be stopped. Two points here – First, a direct attack on you is uncalled for; however, people questioning origin, legitimacy, or quality of tea is a common theme across multiple vendors. Second, an attack on a member of the community, regardless of how thinly or heavily veiled (or whether it is yourself or another person posting these things), is also uncalled for, which is why Misty Peaks has continued to garner negative attention. We will always ask the difficult questions of any tea company (there are plenty of threads of examples). As a company, you have the responsibility to the consumer to answer questions.

Have I had your tea? No. Do I really want to after seeing and reading things posted by either yourself or someone affiliated with Misty Peaks? No.

It’s an easy(ish) solution here. Rise above hate – that goes for everyone here.

PS: It’s just TEA, damn it.

boychik said

@kieblera5 TEA equal money. big money sometimes if you buy tongs. you are tong ppl kieblera5 .

if TEA released earlier than any other vendors it depletes our tea funds. so it is competition who gets money first. very simple.

mrmopar said

kiebs I agree. Can we let this die out. We are all much better people than this. I will quote Nicholas’s saying I like, “Sip Peace.”
Tea is our respite from an over civilized world sometimes. Let us all remember how to enjoy it.

I hardly ever post here but can’t resist now. I looked into Bef’s IG and he’s clearly affiliated with W2T and shooting against Misty Peak always lol
Curious why Bef is so violent on here but it’s kinda entertaining

bef said

Hi Phil, welcome back!

Can you speak a bit about W2T and how you are related to them? ;) Curious since most of your IG (roughly 80%) deals with them :)

https://www.instagram.com/bef12/

bef said

Phil, crap, you just uncovered my conspiracy to share photos from teas I’m drinking online. Nice to see you’re getting better with fake accounts then you where back in the “monkey tea” days.

What are you talking about?
So are you working with W2T? Simple question :)

Easiest way to get a thread closed – posting stuff like this.

Me looking for a moderator like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nR0xIbnbmY

These smileys and lol in every posts, and that wording, too. Yep, no doubt, Phil a.k.a. Tea Monkey is back.

I’m not Phil or Tea Monkey (whoever that is) and have never been but you are being evasive. Still waiting for a reply.

boychik said

jacksonsmith7 if you are saying bef affiliated with W2T ,in this case im too. but im affiliated not only with W2T but Yunnan Sourcing, Crimson Lotus Tea, Joseph Wesley Tea and bunch of other awesome tea companies im doing reviews on IG. Oh forgot to add Pu-erh.sk. one of my heavily reviewed on IG. Stop this nonsense.

Yeah I know, I follow you since a long time. Still unusual when one person posts 80% only about one company and doesn’t give a straight answer, don’t you think?

boychik said

no, its not unusual. W2T is bef’s favorite. whats unusual about it? Also bef and me and bunch of other kids are in W2T club. so thats why its more heavily reviewed than any other company
Whats your IG name jacksonsmith7? i just want to check if i follow you

cool.

bef said

@Phil Yeah, I got that unethical relationship with some vendors. I send them money, and they ship me tea. And then sometimes I post online about the tea.

cool. do they send you something else in return too or is that just a coincidence? ;)

mrmopar said

Can we kill this? We are all part of the community here. Let’s all respect each other.

In the end I don’t care if this was actually tea from an earlier harvest. It will be good as it’s from Misty Peaks and I will probably end up buying some. Whatever else you may say about Misty Peaks is his tea is excellent. Even if the harvest times seems inexplicably early again.

Jackson… There is a story behind everything. Bef and a few others were attacked by someone affiliated with MP awhile back. Should they hold a grudge because of one person? I can say no, but we all know how people look badly at resturants based on one meal…
Please think before you speak. No way is anyone here affiliated with W2T. You want to know why people favor it? My goodness, that’s easy as hell to think of through multiple perspectives. Monthly boxes less than the price of one MP cake, variety, and a lot of people recommend it. I can go on and on, opinions shouldn’t be met with anger. Find facts and discuss. That is how this will progress.

Until then, you’ve puckered my beenghole.

P.S. to my knowledge. MP is the one who sends free tea and cups, not W2T

Hey guys.

Our Spring tea is picked between February-late April/early May. Perhaps it is early compared to other farmers/purveyors, but very normal here. Just as Spring comes earlier in California than Virginia, seasons are different all over the world. If it is not considered Spring tea in someone’s book, it is still great tea and we encourage you to try it.

Thank you all for your concern. We address this issue each year as best we can. Best of health to all of you.

Uniquity said

Perhaps this could be better clarified on the page for the tea itself. Since you state it will be shipped April 4, these particular leaves were obviously picked before that time, rather than the February – early May range you state above. Specificity goes a long way to allaying concerns like these.

bef said

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on spring harvest.

I’m puzzled how you are able to get old arbor spring puerh in late February. That doesn’t make sense, it’s not even in a gray area. Then, there’s also the fact that you are selling 200+ y/o Yiwu tea for that price. That’s also quite unrealistic, unless you’re losing money.

Either you are trying to fool your clients, or you’ve been fooled yourself by your vendor in China.

There’s nothing wrong selling the tea just for what it is, even if it’s from younger trees, less famous area or not from spring. If it’s good tea, people will buy it.

Now, again, please note I’m questioning your claims as a business, not attacking you as a person.

I think jacksonsmith7 might be the missing link between Monkey Tea and Phil America / Misty Peak.

1. jacksonsmith7 & Monkey Tea being the same person

Monkey Tea’s posts have been deleted long ago. But those who were there probably can notice some similitude between jacksonsmith7 and Tea Monkey:
– Trolling the same way:
o Posting very short, provocative answers
o Same kind of wording
o Using smileys & lol everywhere
o Replying unusually fast to every post
– Defending Misty Peak on threads – this one is about the pyramid-shaped puerh: “Its pretty cool looking, havent seen something like it, and there other tea they sent was real good.” (source: steepster.com/discuss/12440-misty-peak-teas-marketing-practices?page=3)
– Both being users that were created months before, and and that were kept on the side for the right occasion.
– Both trying to hijack an embarrassing discussion the usual way (getting people to insult each other until a moderator closes the thread).

2. jacksonsmith7 and Phil America being the same person

Both are publishing Misty Peak spam on tea blogs:
– I have yet to find another tea business posting fake comments on blogs, so it would be a curious coincidence if these were from different people;
– Same kind of wording;
– Same unusual way of posting Misty Peak’s URL the instead of just just referring to their name.

Phil America (sorry – double-posting to make it easier to compare with jacksonsmith7):
Interesting. Have you tried Misty Peak Pu’er? That is my favorite so far. www.mistypeakteas.com" (source: www.how-to-diy.org/YIMYqFiXc9MSph/How-to-make-Pu-Erh-Tea.html)
Mistypeakteas.com is the only Pu’er I drink outside of China. It’s literally amazing! (source: www.seriouseats.com/2015/08/what-is-puerh-tea-where-to-buy.html)
Amazing tea www.mistypeakteas.com thanks guys! (source: www.teaformeplease.com/2014/07/misty-peak-teas-2013-sheng-yiwu-mtn.html)
– Instagram / to @mysundayteacom: Nice! Have you tried @mistypeakteas ?
– Instagram / to @teavillage: Nice! you guys have @mistypeakteas?
– Instagram / to @hojoakira: Where is this? @mistypeaks is my favourite!

Jackson Smith:
Hi, Thank you for the informative tea review. I also love tea, Puer tea is my favorite tea, especially from www.MistyPeakTeas.com (source: theteacupoflife.com/2015/09/tea-review-tea-aves-tie-kwan-yin.html)

3. Phil America & Misty Peaks
This one has already been establised on this thread and everywhere on the web, he’s one of the owners of Misty Peak.

AllanK said

You have no proof of this? This person was reviewing tea at the same time the Monkey King was being deleted fromo Steepster. And he has only reviewed Misty Peaks once among seven or eight reviews.

ok :)

ive never ordered from MP or WP, i just mostly order from YS, Teavivre, uptons and Aliexpress

Despite the seemingly too early for spring harvest Misty Peaks has some excellent tea, regardless if it is Winter harvest or Spring harvest. They apparently now harvest puerh in winter in some places. It was on a blog by Two Dog from White2Tea.

i really don’t know much about season harvesting

AllanK said

It used to be they only harvested puerh in spring and autumn. Then they added summer harvest to use for ripe tea. Lately, according to Two Dog of White2Tea they are in some places now harvesting in Winter. Two Dog thinks this is a bad idea for a variety of reasons, stresses out the trees etc.

Ah! i see now :)
