Looking for a frother

My frother died after 6 months. Yeah, I only paid ($7-8 and have seen ones that look identical for $4) and used it everyday for my morning matcha latte. I must have a replacement. I would rather pay a little more if that meant it would last a while.

There is nothing available locally and it is really hard to make an intelligent decision looking online. I am considering the Elementi Premiere with stand – reviewed well but I know nothing about them. I like the look and the high torque motor idea.

Anyone have this one or another that you have found to be reliable?

Personally, I’ve found little difference between inexpensive and high-priced hand held frothers. My $20 Aerolatte held up about as long as my $3 World Market frother. They seem to have a lifespan of about 1-2 years with regular use.

I checked out the Elementi Premier on Amazon and I like the stand that comes with it, more elegant than shoving it into a cupboard like I usually do. But I wonder about that high torque motor. A too powerful motor can turn milk into a thick meringue like foam instead of the microfoam you want for lattes. That’s happens to me sometimes when I put a fresh set of batteries in my frother.

I found a nice inexpensive frother at Ikea for around 2 bucks! I paid about 12 dollars for a similar device some years ago and it finally died on me a couple of years ago and I was without for a while until I found the one I found at Ikea.

I bought the same frother at Ikea but have yet to use it.

Mine works great. I’m very happy with it – especially since the price was so remarkably low!

I use a manual (non-battery/non-power)plunger frother. I think it was about $20ish. I like it better because it works every time and I find it is easier to control how thick or thin you want the foam than a battery powered one.

Its not this exact one but it looks like this. I bought mine at Walmart. http://www.amazon.com/BonJour-Coffee-Stainless-Frother-16-Ounce/dp/B0001K187S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1455925631&sr=8-2&keywords=plunger+milk+frother

Still undecided as I will have to order what ever I get. If a cheapy is supposed to last as long as the more expensive ones that will probably sway me.

The one that just died seems to have lost a connection tab off the motor. When you take a frother apart there really is nothing to it. 1-2 years I would have kind of understood but 6 months was kind of a short lifespan.

A French Press will work in a pinch as a manual frother. I’ve done it in the past, though I’ve never tried mixing the matcha in with it.

I have and would definitely recommend this handheld one http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000E170W?keywords=handheld%20frother&qid=1455944628&ref_=sr_1_22&sr=8-22

I also have the manual one Lala posted, and that works very well for cold milk, but I don’t find myself using it much at all.
