New teaware has arrived - Jianshui zitao, pots, gaiwans, cups and more!

Our first collection of teaware is now online, including Jianshui zitao teaware, Japanese style glassware, as well as a few other assorted gaiwans, gong beis and other accessories.

We tried to choose not only unique and interesting items, but ones that were also functional. Anything that wasn’t practical/reliable enough for daily use isn’t listed. In the case of the Jianshui teaware, many of them are one of a kind pieces, but will be replaced periodically as they are sold. We’ll also be working with artists on custom pieces in the future, but one thing at a time.

Questions, requests or anything else of the sort are also welcome. Enjoy!

You can check out all of the pieces here: http://www.bitterleafteas.com/product-category/teaware/

The pale lotus zitao is gorgeous. Both cup and teapot.

Thank you! I had to fight my wife just to put that up… I think she has a mental “sell-by” date, after which point she’s just going to keep it.

Absolutely love the Vajra Bell zitao teapot, but it’s out of my price range unfortunately. It is lovely though.

Yeah, if I ever win the lottery, a whole lotta teaware is gonna be mine… :)

Yeah, while they’re not on the highest end of zitao prices, they’re certainly not at the lowest either. Hopefully over the summer we’ll have some more sub $100 pots, but that’s a little ways away, still have spring tea to work on!

Beautiful pieces and awesome website! I LOVE the see how it pours feature!

Thanks! We figured it’s hard enough to buy teaware online without being able to hold it or try it out, so this was the best solution we could think of!

Beautiful teawares. Are you planning to carry any teapot smaller than 100ml in the future?

Bitterleaf said

It’s possible, but we haven’t found anything in that range that we felt confident in. In China a lot of people consider pots 100ml or less (even under 150ml) to not be very functional, so it can be a little tricky to find. The other issue is that smaller pots require more skill and attention to detail, making them tougher to make and often a bit more expensive.

Our smallest at the moment is 125ml. Do you have a style or type that you’re looking for though? Feel free to PM me and I can get back to you with what we’ve come across. Depending on what you’re looking for we may be able to nab something, or at least try.

Yes, I saw the 125ml Vajra Bell Zitao and I like it. I mostly use 80-100ml teapots for Puer and 50-60ml pots for Oolong. I’ve no experience with this kind of clay at all so I still don’t know what I really need but I did order a small (45ml) Jian Shui from Yunnan Sourcing and am waiting for the pot to arrive. Let me try it with different kinds of tea and see how it’s like.

Bitterleaf said

Yeah, I’ve only used zitao with puer (ripe and raw) really, besides cheating with an oolong once, but find it quite suitable. Compared to yixing it’s significantly denser and heavier. Anything closer to 100ml is definitely more doable, but as it gets smaller than that, it’s tough.

Anyway, let me know if you have any questions or requests!

I love that Warrior Zitao gaiwan. What is your shipping charge if that is all I buy? Says free shipping over $100 I think.

Bitterleaf said

For anything that doesn’t qualify for free shipping (under $100), it’s a flat rate of $12.95 via e-packet + lots of bubble wrap.

We’ve updated this with even more teaware, including a 100ml zitao pot. All we’ve been hearing lately is that people want smaller pots… unfortunately there’s not usually a great selection out there of small, quality pots. This was the smallest acceptable pot we could find. Anything else just didn’t do it, but this one’s a beaut!
