Colorful Tea

Wondering if anyone can recommend any tea blends that steep to unusual colors (not your typical honey yellow or red brown). Maybe something blue?

Butterfly pea flowers.

Ah! So pretty! -Thanks for sharing :)

Butterfly pea flowers are a lot of fun, I used them to dye easter eggs one year, but I don’t really care for the flavor as a tea. If you add an acid (like lemon juice) the tea will actually change colors from deep blue to pinkish/purple.

Woah! Awesome tip. I was actually thinking of trying it as a natural dye for fabric

I had a chemistry major friend who suggested using vodka to produce a wider range of colors. It turned my eggs a greenish/gray at first, but eventually broke down the shell of the eggs. It might actually work better with fabric.

Well, I’ve only ever seen this tea in the Czech Republic/Slovakia, but…

Majestic Tea – Noni and Plum by Biogena steeps to a dark royal purple colour.

Try something with hibiscus in it. It will brew to a lovely pink or crimson red color.

Will do! I actually have a blend with berries in it that slow bleeds a bright red when it’s steeping – so fun to watch! (Fruit Sangria Tea- from Not Just Teas)

Caramel almond amaretti from Teavana and Forever Nuts from DAVID’s TEA steep a bright pinkish red due to the beet root. Matcha and some green teas are a medium green. Shirley Temple and Pom Diggity from DAVID’s TEA steep red. Rooibos can steep a very intense rich brown.

I can totally see myself having an Alice in Wonderland themed tea party with a rainbow of teas.

I was just at a party like this- sadly lacking in tea- they served colorful punch/cocktails in tea cups instead.
