Book Club

Hello everyone!

Twing and I were talking and decided to try to launch (or relaunch, as you’ve had one here before) the book club. It appears as though several people are interested. These are the people I see from this thread there is twing, me (QuiltGuppy, or Jen), KeenTeaThyme, JoeCool (Nichole) and Gingko. Is there anyone else who might be interested in joining in?

In looking through books on tea, a few jumped out as potentials for a book club read. I’m going to post them here with links to amazon.com, just because it’s easiest for me to find reviews. If you’re really interested in reading something that’s not on our list, please add it in and we’ll vote on which one to choose. We tried to find books from different genres and note them. That way, we’re not tied in to one specific genre, and allows us to diversity each time. Depending upon which book is chosen, we can set up either a reading schedule (one of the books on the list is 400 pages long!), or an online meet up after the book is completed.

Here is the list:

Three Cups of Tea (book – expository narrative) – http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0143038257/ref=s9_simh_gw_p14_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0MB4N1RDHXGE5Q483PNT&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

Death by Darjeeling (Tea Shop Mystery – mystery fiction) – http://www.amazon.com/Death-Darjeeling-Tea-Shop-Mystery/dp/0425179451/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1296917463&sr=8-1

Tea With Jane Austen (expository narrative) – http://www.amazon.com/Tea-Jane-Austen-Kim-Wilson/dp/097212179X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1296308899&sr=1-1

The Book of Tea (expository) – http://www.amazon.com/Book-Tea-Penguin-Classics/dp/0141191848/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1296308985&sr=8-1

The Story of Tea (expository – 400 pgs.) – http://www.amazon.com/Story-Tea-Cultural-History-Drinking/dp/1580087450/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1296308933&sr=1-1

Joy’s Teaspoon has an official book club (Carp Eyes Coming) on our blog (blog.joysteaspoon.com). We have put together a resource list of tea related reading: tea books, tea fiction, tea dictionaries, etc. Hope this helps you with an unending source of titles for this club!

Just thinking Jen and everyone, we may want to call this “Bookclub: 2nd Steep” or something like that since it is not the first or only…

What do you think?

Just did the survey. Love the idea of calling us the 2nd Steep. :)

I don’t know why I didn’t see the 2nd Steep post… I think it’s a great name! :)

Book club survey will be closing tomorrow night so we can get our books and begin reading. Please, if you haven’t taken the survey to indicate your choice, do so today or tomorrow. (Also, we have a major tie going on between Three Cups of Tea and the Story of Tea.)

I’m curious how it will be set up. We each read the book and then discuss here? Will we start a new topic for the book so it’s easier to find?
