Do you Gong Fu Anywhere?

It’s a shame I can’t post pictures here, but I just wanted to ask the community if they brew gong fu and if so are you able to break free of the tea table to do it. Zhen recently got a cute little tea set while in China that serves as a container for the set as well as a mini tea table! So we used it to brew a Tie Guan Yin Qing Xiang while we were flying to the World Tea Expo. Yup, we brewed gong fu right on the drop down tray table! We definitely didn’t brew an ultra high end tea as the airplane water was fairly ‘tasty’ all by itself. Just curious to know if any of you have fun brewing in unique and fun locations?

I have a tiny little tea tray that was made out of a cigar box. I keep it in a “tea to go” tote along with a travel gaiwan set. When the mood strikes I’ll go brew something up in the park (though I often get strange looks in my urban town).

That’s so … I want to say cute, but it’s just gorgeous! And so clever. What’s the tea pet? Looks a little like Yoda from the top ;)

The tea pet is tiny little chimpanzee :)

I have seen sets like that on EBay but don’t remember which seller, maybe Shanghai Story or Berylleb King Tea.

Chiu Chow style metal tea tray is great. I bought one of them in HK (pretty sure i got ripped off, due to the presence of my white wife). I think you can easily make one with biscuit tin.

This is me Gong Fu-ing on the back of a UTE

I’ve been traveling for work and, not willing to leave my tea hobby behind, have brought most of my brewing implements (but not the bulky table) with me. Makes it take an extra trip or two to get myself into the hotel room, but it’s worth it! :)

Good call! Definitely worth the extra trip. If you have any photos to share, we’d love to see them.

Very elegant setup!

Considering it was about 7am in a rural Chinese airport, that’s a big compliment, thank you :)

I do “ghetto gong fu” at work by microwaving water in a coffee mug and using an easy gaiwan, japanese tea cup, and tea tumbler as a cha hai. It’s not pretty but it gets the job done.

Whatever works! Boiling water in the workplace is the trickiest, but you’ve got something that works for you.

I’ve got one of those zip-up gaiwan cases, but no travel tray. Although the one I use is pretty small anyhow.

I’d love to see a picture of your gaiwan and case if you have one. Sounds pretty cool.
