Save the pu erh...

I recently bought a pouch – about 2 oz – of loose pu erh from a local store. The tea is not bad, but not very good either. I’ve tried different leaf amounts, steep times, etc. to no avail. Now, I could put the tea in the cupboard for some future moment when I am in the mood for mediocre pu-erh (which is unlikely as I also have on hand other excellent pu erhs).

I was wondering if anyone knows of any blends I could create with the tea. I’m thinking maybe I could mix this with some other tea/teas to make a blend. Or maybe add spices? Or add some additive to it. Milk? Lemon? Sugar? Does anything go with pu erh?

I’m trying to save this tea from certain obscurity in my cupboard, and am hoping to tap into the community’s combined tea experience :)

Thanks.

All I can say is experiment. Add cinnamon or mix it with some black tea. Why don’t you mix it with some better tasting pu-erh? Maybe that will improve the taste.

Try adding some mini chocolate chips or/both nibs if you have them. Then milk and sugar after the steep. Just a thought.

Chocolate! Awesome. I wouldn’t have thought of that. I love chocolate blends, and even though milk with pu-erh seems a strange concept, it is certainly worth a try.

I mix my puerh with lapsang or any other black tea or blend. Pu-erh mixes well

A lapsang blend sounds very interesting. I think lapsang will compliment the pu-erh nicely. Thank you for the idea.
