Online green tea store in the UK

Hello everyone!
I’ve recently decided to get into proper green tea (been having the bagged stuff for about 10 years now). Any good UK based stores you could recommend for me to make a purchase?
I’ve searched around the forum but only found a post that is 7 years old and I feared it might not be up to date.
I’m also looking for advice on some green tea recommendations for my transition (I’ve read a little bit about it and will surely get some Genmaicha) from bad tea to the amazing world of good green tea.

I’m also looking for a steeper for the office, so if you have any recommendations, I’ll gladly take them.

Thank you very much for the help!
Cheers,
Nuno

Definitely at some point go to what-cha and get some samples of anything and everything. There’s some absolute gems in that site that I never thought would be as good as they are..

P.s. you need some Jade oolong as well. It’s green in colour too afterall

I believe Bluebird Tea Company is also out of the UK, I think. I have not ordered from them but have heard good things.

Obviously I’m biased but agree! Ours are all blends, but there are loads of great companies doing straight green tea over here too!

Where are you based?

There quite a few. Besides What Cha there is ChinaLife in Camden Town – London, GreenTeaGuru in Guildford and many many others. If you search for Tea Explorer they have a huge list of UK tea websites. Pm me if you need more info.

Hey Rui, I’ve tried sending you a message but I can’t as my account is still too recent. Any kind of green tea you recommend to introduce me to this wonderful world? I’ll probably end up buying a sample pack of green tea if no other recommendations show up. Should I get them blended with other flavours like berries, etc?

Early spring this year I ordered most of the green teas for the year from Teavivre as the UK tea shops only get them latter. The ones I ordered were Tai Ping Hou Kui, Dragon Well, Shen Qian Dragon Well, Huang Shan Mao Feng, Tian Mu Qing Ding and Bi Luo Chun in small quantities of each for variety.

By now our stock of green teas is almost finished and my wife and I are about to move full time to other types of favourite teas, i.e. Oolong for my wife and raw Pu’er for me.

If I were to choose two types of those green teas it would probably be Dragon Well and Mao Feng or Bi Luo Chun.

Welcome to the wonderful world of green tea. You will experience that loose leaf green tea is nothing like the pre bagged stuff. I’m in the UK too and I find it’s best to order from overseas, not only for the price but getting Chinese tea direct from China makes more sense. Or Japanese green direct, Indian green….you get the point.

Here are some websites that have very reasonable shipping rates to UK, along with nice tea.

http://www.teavivre.com/ – Chinese Tea
https://yunnansourcing.com/ – Chinese Tea
https://yunomi.us/ – Japanese Tea
https://www.vahdamteas.com/pages/golden-tips-to-vahdam – Indian Tea

Some of those do green tea samplers which come in handy for new tea drinks.

In terms of what to recommend I would say to have a read through the different teas and pick some that interest you. There is no right or wrong in what you pick.

Hi Nuno. My local shop is online – http://www.goodandpropertea.com/. I currently have a bag of their Jade Tips, which is very nice and delicate; Hojicha is good too.

You have a few good options in the UK.

Bricks and motar places include London based http://the-chinese-tea-company.com & Postcard teas. In the West you have Comins Tea Houses in Bath and Sturminister Newton.

And finally, us, Wan Ling Tea House are online www.wanlingteahouse.com and based in Shanghai and Dorset!

Green tea wise, then good staples are Mao Feng and Long Jing. From our range then the Tai Ping Hou Kui is definitely a standout option.

Enjoy your tea journey.

Hello! Sasha and I are baesd in London and we stock 1 green tea, out of the 5 teas we’ve spent 4.5 years meticulously sourcing. This is dragonwell, whose main tasting note is roasted chestnut with a citrucy note – I really like it. We were going to stock Anji Bai Cha green as well, but because we test all our teas for pesticides in a lab to ensure they meet EU and UK legislation, but all the Anji Bai Cha we have come acrooss has failed the pesticides tests sadly, so we only stock the one that has passed!

We also have 2 white teas if you are looking for a refreshing/ light tasting tea(bai hao silver needle and jasmine baihao silver needle from a tea garden in the Fujian province). These are very light in flavour, as they are the 1st teas to be picked in the year (so before it gains tannins and becomes more astringent) and only the buds are collected. Silver needle has a very distinct flavour. The jasmine silver needle is the silver needle laid out onto a bed of night jasmine flowers for 8 – 12 consecutive nights, so that’s light and refreshing as well.

We also do 20% off on all repeat orders.

Plus all of our profits now go to charity. We’ll also be going to Nepal to help re-build shelters for people! :)
