Suggestions for ripe Bu Lang Shou

I am relatively new to puerh and have recently join this awesome community to learn more.

One thing I have found is I really enjoy Ripe Bu Lang teas. I have been stocking and drinking YS Year of the Goat, Mandala Rama Lama Bulang, and several others that indicate they are composed of leaves from the Bulang and Bada regions.

The biggest appeal of these teas is the rich flavor with touches of plum and black cherry that I get when drinking theses.

I know that most of the teas I have collected are newer releases and wondered if there were any suggestions for aged Bulang that I should be looking at?

One of the things about Chinese teas is they are often from a region other than that which is stated. If it is more profitable to classify the tea as Bulang some companies will gladly do that. While I don’t believe Mandala or Yunnan Souorcing would do that and Bulang is not the number one region faked, be careful of less trustworthy sources. As Bulang is one of the more famous regions some teas may get falsely classified as that. Also, frequently Shou doesn’t have a statement attached to it saying where it was from. The better Menghai Tea Factory products for instance will rarely state where the tea is from although a seller may be able to find out.

I have a cake coming out in October that’s a blend of Bulang and Menghai material from 2007 and 2012. It’s called Lord of the Lakes. I’d happily send you a sample if you’re interested! :-)

That sounds like a great combination and based upon your other cakes it should be awesome. Thanks for the offer.

No worries! Just followed you, shoot me your address in a PM? :-)

I believe Yunnan Sourcing’s Hui Run is Bulang material, and it’s quite nice. There’s a 2013 and 2011 version

There is also a 2015 version.

Crimson Lotus has a Bulang shou in stock, but it’s a 1kg brick. I’ve had the 2012 Bulang Gushu, and it was quite good (sold out now though). I haven’t had the brick, but I will say generally speaking, CL shou is good stuff.

I’d think the flavors you’re after are more a result of length and style of pile fermentation than origin. Shu isn’t known for preserving terroir!

My favorite bulang is from Bana Teas. If you love ripe puer, Bana is the place to check out as they are very good.

This bulang is pretty affordable http://www.banateacompany.com/pages/puerh_teas-Bulang_ripe_mini_cake.html
