Homegrown :-)

I have grown and managed herbs all of my life, and herbs for tea have always been an important part of my herb gardens. But, I have never grown Camellia sinensis. While I knew it was available, I have always assumed it was a little too cold intolerant for my region. But, while feeding my obsession for cold hardy ornamental Camellia sp., I came across this grower in NC with an extensive collection of C. sinensis. Several of the varieties could work in my region with proper placement, protection, and with a little help from global warming. I am geared up and ready! I can’t imagine a better way to gain a deeper sense of respect and understanding of tea then growing, picking, steaming, and oxidixing C. senensis yourself. Are there any other tea lovers out there that have tried growing their own? Does anyone have any suggestions for proper C. senensis culture?

Wow! This is right down the road from my house! I will definitely be making a visit! I don’t have much of a green thumb but my Mom does. I’ve visited the tea plantation in Charleston and it was so neat seeing all of those tea plants in person!
