Forum software

I’m new here so please don’t shoot me for making a suggestion before I’ve “paid my dues”. ;-)

The forum software here is very basic. The good news is that it is simple to use and very little can go wrong. The bad news is that it lacks almost all of the features of most forums, such as quoting, highlighting, lists, tables, etc. Plus, it must have been a lot of work to have written the software and maintain it.

I imagine the developers considered one of the off-the-shelf offerings. I’m wondering why they chose to reinvent the wheel?

I’d like to suggest vBulletin. It’s not perfect, but it is widespread and actively supported. The cost is reasonable. They even offer a cloud hosting option, which should take most of the work off of the forum owners. If a few of us chipped in $5, it would be paid for.

Cheers, CM
