Green tea substitute for black-with-milk

Can you recommend a green tea to replace my morning black tea, which I drink with milk? I’m now allergic to pretty much all milks and substitutes but don’t like clear black teas (too tannic, I suppose). Hoping for something creamy, fairly high caffeine, with a bit of oomph — and easy to find. Greens I know I like: biluochun and longjing, neither of which is quite right for the first cup of the day. Thanks!

It is very unusual to be allergic to both milk and non dairy creamers. I sometimes use unflavored non dairy coffee creamer in smoky tea. Are you allergic to this? How about almond milk or even something somewhat new like refrigerated coconut milk. While the coconut milk in the can for cooking would I think be horrible in tea the stuff sold next to the almond milk in supermarkets might work.

I suppose if you are looking for a green tea with more oomph in the morning try matcha. It’s not really that matcha has more caffeine than other green tea but that you consume all the leaf so get all the caffeine.

You don’t like milky oolongs ? I agree with Allan K, there are a few substitutes like coconut milk or almond milk that wouldn’t seem to cause issues. If they do, I’d suggest that their processing is what is causing the issue. I’ve made almond/macadamia nut milk from scratch that is easy and creamy. Maybe try that to see if the issue is with the processing.
