When you have a cold...

…do you find that your tea doesn’t taste quite right? I was thinking that something was wrong with my tea, but then I realized that every single tea I try this weekend tastes flat and a little like soap.

sigh I miss my tea.

Yes, very much so. In fact, while sick, I tried one of the spiciest teas I have and steeped it for the maximum amount of time. I ended up burning my tongue, but couldn’t taste a thing. This is a good time to drink the teas you may have that aren’t as exciting or expensive as your more treasured ones. I hope you feel better soon!

Good idea! I’ll get rid of my least favourites (what awful bagged tea do I have lurking in the back of my cupboard?). And it may explain why the Oriental Beauty I tried for the first time (before I realized I was getting a cold), was so disappointing. I’ll wait until I am better and have my nose intact before trying it again!

Colds ruin tea tastes, sadly. : (

QuiltGuppy is right though, perfect time to use up anything you don’t love!

When I have a cold I pretty much exclusively drink tulsi as far as teas go. Somehow the flavor doesn’t seem as badly impared and it’s supposed to be an adaptogenic good for bolstering the immune system. Good soothing stuff. Kind of depressing, I get sick a lot and tea at those times would be lovely if it weren’t for the flavor at that point. :( Good idea QuiltGuppy, wish I’d thought to do that.

Yeah, I hate that. When I had a cold recently I stuck to things like chamomile or rooibos, maybe with some mint or lemon and sweetener.

Luckily both of those are pretty cheap for me – it doesn’t make sense to waste expensive tea when I can barely taste it!

Peppermint and green teas are what I drink when I am sick. I do miss my Pc Tips for the duration of the cold:(
Hope you are feeling better sooner rather than later:)

Some great ideas. Here are my learnings: forget your oolongs. They taste like soap.

DavidsTeas Read my lips is strong enough on the peppermint and chocolate to come through, but chocolate and colds don’t pair well for me.

52teas choco mate malt became a fave, even though I can’t taste the choco. I don’t want to live without this tea now. Maybe it’s the energy boost? Can’t wait to be able to fully appreciate it.

Black teas are somewhat better than the oolongs during this cold. I wonder if their taste is more tongue and less nose driven?
