2017: How much will you spend on tea this year?

Year to date, I’ve spent $4,569.
So my stretch goal for the year will be to only spend $5,000 total.

This year, I’ve bought 3 yixings and some 1960’s and 70’s sheng which have cost quite a bit…! And I’ve tasted some delicious Taiwanese oolongs which have made my purchases worth it.

I think I may do about half this if I can get away with it. I will do a tally later on.

Ugh, this year’s total is now at $4,889… I will definitely break $5k before the end of the year.

Geez. You guys make me seem almost frugal. I’m still under 1K

2017 tea ended up costing me $9,924.

I am at 675$ now. Kinda surprised it’s that low.

Had about equal sized orders from yunnansourcing and teavivre. Reconfirmed my opinion of the latter – meh.

Did you order any green tea from teavivre? Some people have recommended them for Chinese greens but they didn’t seem like they would have the quality I would want so I’ve held off.

Zeks said

Nope, I only ordered blacks and dancongs

Group buys are hard me to say no to… now I know how it feels as everyone has said about me lightening their wallet because I keep joining; with no regrets may I add!

We may grumble about it, but we are so glad you do them.

And me too. I may drag my feet a bit, but you haven’t yet gotten rid of me :)

2016 was way way way over the top on expenses, including tea ware, tea box mailings, swaps, tea festival, and a new kettle. Thank you all for prodding me into keeping track.

This year, I am doing a lot of sipping down, shopping in my stash, and attempting to keep tea expenses to well under $1000 CAN all in. So far, so good.

that’s a great goal. I think i was aiming for under 300 in each currency and so far i’m doing well in that department.

Ok, just did a rounded up calculation and so far, I’ve spent roughly $800 CAN, not including things I’ve ordered with VariaTEA. And I have been remarkably restrained compared to my usual nature, if I do say so myself. And we haven’t even hit Black Friday yet. I suspect I will be raising my year end goal to closer to $1500 CAN.

haha i’m hoping that i can be reasonable on black friday :)

I’m trying not to lie to myself.

300 CAN plus 300 US (plus 300 British Sterling) per year? Or $300 CAN including all currencies converted into CAN?

I think you are showing remarkable resolve and are doing shockingly well in chiselling down your stash while savouring tea world.

Sil select said

Haha 300 in usd and 300 in Canadian since I know I’ll buy tea in both currencies.

Dr Jim said

That could be fun. 300 USD, 300 CAN, 300 pound Sterling, 300 Euro, 300 Taiwan Dollars, 300 HK dollars, 300 Rupees. Who else sells tea? Kenyan Shilling anyone?

Hahaha, yes.

Still remarkable.

That’s really not all that much in tea world.

In 2017, I got a $40 electric tea kettle and spent probably $150 on boxes of tea. Then I did two high tea sessions, but I don’t know how much of the bill was for tea and how much was for biscuits and such, maybe like $50 for the actual tea each time. So in total so far, rough estimate, $300.
