I second Verdant tea. Very nice teas ( even though a bit pricey ), excellent customer service, fast shipping, and a great selection.

I recently had a wonderful experience ordering from liquid Proust. Make sure to try the western wild.

Im new as well, and have been doing some tastings of some of the various places.

So far Verdant tea has impressed me the most, but so has The Tea spot, Sheffeild spice and tea, though Im waiting for Teavivre, Yunnan sourcing, white2tea, and Crimson lotus deliveries and will post tasting notes from a new tea drinkers perspective once I get them.

Does anyone have any recommendations for UK sites that do samples?

Rasseru said

What-cha.com

really good source of teas from all over the world, with tons of samples available :)

Thanks. I like the transparency of source etc.

reasonable prices, and reasonable shipping to US, I like it!

Rasseru said

Yeah i like the transparency, and that there is a lot of countries that I never knew good tea came from to choose from

I have spent a few days looking at various sites and this one seems to fit the bill. Coming from a beer nerd world where I know exactly where the beer comes from and even know some of the guys who brewed the beer. This has always been important to me. Unfortunately beer tasting has occupational health hazards so I am hoping to diversify into tea. You would be surprised about the similarities in the nuances of taste and aroma and discussions on here.

Ah thats good you found steepster, I am from similar origins, and tea really has a much vaster range of experience than I imagined. You need to get trying as many Oolongs as possible & dont look back, is my advice (I can only guess your tea journey from your tea notes)

I have just noticed what-cha have their zhangping mini cakes back in. try them If you havent placed an order yet, do try them -

I like the lighter ones. When i reviewed them before there was only one type of light cake, now there is ‘floral’ and ‘fruity’, those things really are subtle and amazing if you like to pick out hidden complexities in taste.

Martin said

Thanks. Those reviews are just from teas that I had in my cupboard. Obviously all teabags. It was the Lapsong that I bought that made me look up all this tea tasting and it seems to be a hidden world. Those reviews I did were more about seeing how the site worked. I will order my first lot of loose teas in a week or so and start the journey proper.
