Wellington - New Zealand

Does anyone know of a tea shop in Wellington that sells raw pu’er?

My wife and I are visiting NZ later this year and with their very strict import customs regulations I am quite concerned of taking sheng from my own stash.

Many thanks

Rui

It’s very bad to get puer here in New Zealand. The only place that sells sheng in Auckland tries to pawn off rather fake looking, very young 7452 for $200nzd ($150usd). There was Yaya teahouse http://www.yayateahouse.co.nz/Pu-erh-Tea-1.php they only do online orders but if you contact Jan he might know someone in Wellington that can hook you up. I think you would be ok bringing tea in. I’ve only brought green tea in on a plane but order online frequently and have never had a customs issue. Do not try to bring fruit it whatever you do

Thank you for the info and advice. I think I am going to email NZ customs to see what they say about bringing in pu’er tea into the country. Like this I could be sure if they allow it or not.

Oh yeah I would speak to them – I’ve seen programs like ‘nothing to declare’ and if they are anything like the aussies Chinese food things are likely to get fumigated

Thanks Rasseru. Or me landing into trouble right at the airport.

oh crikey yes, $1000 fine for bringing foodstuffs in I have seen before. Admittedly they were lying about whole cases of food, but still, fines do happen a lot.
