Starting my pumidor project-help!

Ok guys I finally decided to invest in creating a good pumidor and I’m running into some issues. I bought a nice mini fridge awhile back but I’m having an extremely hard time getting the plasticy smell out. I have a bunch of baking soda in it right now and some cheap puerh to try and absorb the smell. So far it’s not helping much. I would air it out outside but it’s Minnesota in the winter and it’s been brutally cold lately. Any suggestions? I really don’t want to have my expensive cakes ruined by the plastic smell.

Mine had a plastic smell too. The odor of puer overpowered it and its gone.

In the winter, everything is much drier. Puer acts really funky in the winter, and can get really dry. This means that puer doesn’t do too much until warmer weather. Once warmer weather comes back around, your puer will get more himid and will adapt to the new climate a lot easier.

Personally, I would wait until warmer weather (when the enzymes
In puer even out). But only you can make that call.

For a week long, just take the rinse of all your puerh and wipe it all over the inside of your pumidor walls while it is still hot/warm.

Let’s see plastic over come that!!!

That’s a good idea actually.

I have battled this too. I couldn’t sun dry the smells out because when I tried a zillion bugs moved into the cracks of the fridge, then I had to battle the bleach and plastic smells from bug murdering.

I personally didn’t take a chance since my plastic scent was strong. If it is light plastic, you might be able to overpower it with tea. If it is strong, then I had some luck lots of time with charcoal. The charcoal is from my local Daiso, which is made for deorderizing. I’m 6 months in and the scent in one of my fridges is finally going.

UV breaks down plastic so sun exposure may deteriorate the plastic potentially making the smell worse as gases are released etc (UV degradation)

I made a baking soda thick paste and smeared it all over the plastic. Leave it overnight and wash down. It worked brilliantly.
