forwardocelot—-Most/all of your questions should be answered here. The rules may be slightly adjusted (by me) before the next round, but it should look more or less like this:

Those who participated in previous rounds will have first dibs on participating in this round. Others can join in depending on space available. (The reason for limiting the number of participants is to make sure the box does not get lost, to keep the box weight relatively small, and to ensure we can continuing sending it out for future rounds). New participants may be accepted if there is space available on a first come first serve basis.

Participants and anyone interested in participating, PLEASE READ these rules:

-This is a Canadian travelling box. We will not be shipping internationally (except to those who have participated in previous rounds) unless we need more participants.

- New participants must have some activity and history on steepster. To clarify, that means a hundred posts or more.

-Do not use ziplock baggies for the teas that you share. Participants must have foil or craft bags for tea sharing on hand at the outset of the GCTTB journey. The reason for this is to prevent cross-contamination of tea flavours and scents. The only ziplock baggies that should be in the box are those used for plain unscented straight teas, and those are all corralled in a labelled freezer bag containing teas of the same category.

-You will be required to pay for postage when you send the box out. It is not mandatory, but would be beneficial to send the travelling box with a tracking number in case it gets lost. In the first round, shipping was between $9 -15 depending on the weight on the box.

-Please try to replace what you took out, considering quality, price, weight. Do not add more than what you took out. We need to keep the box a manageable size.

(*Note—the exception to the above— that donations from Liquid Proust Teas are for ALL of us to sample, so kindly take a sample only, ie. do not remove the whole thing.)

-Please post 1. the teas you sampled 2. the teas you removed and 3. the teas you added in both the current GCTTB thread and in the booklet contained in the box itself.

- There will be a small notebook in the tea box. Please update the book with which teas you took out and which teas you added. REMEMBER to keep the book in the tea box so the next participant can update it.

-Regional tea blends are most welcome. The rest of the country needs to learn about your local tea treasures.

-No DAVID’S TEAS, please, unless someone specifically requests to try one that is no longer available.

-Try not to keep the box for longer than ONE WEEK. (This is not a set timeline, however, we would like to keep the box moving in a fairly timely and efficient manner). Please keep the thread updated when you receive the box and when you are sending it out. You can remove teas/samples to try at a later date if needed. Here, with the GCTTB Six, we will have an exception as the person holding the box in the second week of December will hold onto it until Boxing Day, i.e.. December 10th to 26th, to avoid holiday post office insanity, delays, and lineups.

-Follow the person organizing the box, i.e. currently me, and the people who are before and after you in the list so you can PM about addresses and such.

-Please label all the teas with the tea name and the tea company. If you can add recommend steeping parameters, that would be great.

-Please make sure to package teas appropriately so that strongly scented teas do not contaminate the other teas, and so that no teas escape and wander the box while in the mail.

- Please replace the box if it becomes damaged.

We aim to have the box rest with each person a week or less to keep the thing moving so that others get it within a reasonable time.

The next GCTTB will be going out in May.

If you are signing up for the GCTTB, please be aware that you are also signing up to follow these rules out of courtesy for the other participants.

Thanks so much for the information! I’m pretty interested although I haven’t been on steepster long enough to meet your 100 post requirement. Maybe next year :) could you suggest a place to acquire foil bags?

I would suggest searching ebay. They are foil on one side and clear on the other. Others are firm kraft paper on one side and clear on the other.

Some possibilities here.

These are just suggestions, of course, to give you an idea. I wasn’t looking too closely at size, quantity, and cost.

Thanks so much! Good call on eBay, I hadn’t thought to check the most obvious of places :)

Hey, people!

May is just around the corner.
I am thinking that there should be over ten or more people in the
lineup at the outset. Currently, we don’t have anywhere near that number.

So, people, I ask you—shall we wait a few more months, say till August or September,
till we have a more significant number of participants, or what do you think?
