Yunnan Sourcing

Another really great source for tea and tea ware! Scott has been very helpful, and the teapot I purchased is perhaps the best and most functional I have found. It is almost thermos-like in the way it hold heat! I will be reviewing some of the tea I got from him soon, and some of them just blow me away!

Very much so, I just ordered a ton of tea from him. He was very helpful in getting me set up… now I just have to wait for it to get here and rest…. sighs Patience is a virtue with tea.

I am ready to place my 1st order with Yunnan Sourcing. I am a bit confused. Should I order the sale teas, the Autumn 2016 or 2015, or any Spring 2017 teas. I am not too sure what is best to order. I like green, white, dragonwell teas.

Greens younger is better, Oolong and Pu’erh older is better, and white can kinda go either way. If you like greens the spring 2017 are probably a good choice. I ordered some aged ripe puerh from him, not super old, but they have a few years on them to mellow the flavor a bit.

Hey Helene,
I would personally recommend getting the freshest(Spring 2017) offerings from YS, and anywhere else for that matter. I have certainly fallen for discount pricing for older teas and often find them much less enjoyable than when fresh. This pertains especially to green teas which have the shortest shelf life of all tea types.

Agree with orbitten and Ken. Fresh spring green teas are worth waiting for!

Green, always the freshest one can get. White, well…that depends. I recently tried a 10 year old Silver Needle ( not intentional — I forgot I had it in the back! ) and while it did not have the fruit or freshness of a young white it was really interesting, had some fruit and florals left with a really wonderful earthiness that was really complex. Like and old Burgundy!
Oolong, also depends, greener oolongs are usually better fresher, they tend to get kind of musty over time, more roasted oolongs can be really great with some time. Black, usually fresher is better, but Dian Hongs seen to go for at least three years ( that is when I tasted my first one, and while not the best teat to begin with it has changed in interesting ways ), perhaps others as well.

Yes lots of patience with tea. @oceanica you would do well to give the review around 3-6months after you receive the tea, so it can acclimate to where you are.

YS is a store standard that I compare other places too. Whether customer service or price/quality I am 100% satisfied with his stuff. The guy is top notch.

My plans exactly, though I usually wait a few weeks.

Thanks @Ken and @obritten that answers my question. I will look at the Spring 2017 green teas from them. Can’t wait to try.
