Tea Photography

Does anyone here do tea photography beyond posting to Instagram. I recently upgraded my Canon Photo printer to a Canon Pixma Pro-10. This only produces slightly better images than my last printer. This one will do enlargements of 13 × 19. I have been printing photos of today’s tea sessions and they are amazing.

If I had a half-decent camera, maybe. I post phone and cheap digicam photos to flickr, though.

I am currently using a Nikon D500 that I also use to transfer images to my phone for Instagram. I also have a D800 which is higher resolution but it cannot transfer images.

D500. The long awaited successor to the D300. Had and still have the D200. Have and still have the Nikomat, the F90, and the F5. Sold all of my expensive prime and zoom lenses to finance the D200 purchase. Waited patiently for several years for Nikon to develop and release the D400. Waited for more than a decade, then jumped ship to join the Fujifilm Bandwagon. Used the Fujifilm Provia, Sensia, Reala and the incredible resolution and color saturation of Velvia during my film shooting days.

From all the reviews I’ve read, the D500 is a great camera as is the D800. I started photography on Nikon cameras, and as much as I loved Nikon, I can’t see myself going back. Even with my outdated Fujifilm XE-1, I still get excellent A3 sized prints from my Epson R3000.

Awaiting the gallery show. I will serve tea.

While I do not have connections for a gallery show I could certainly send prints out to people who were willing to cover my costs. Each 13 × 19 uses paper that costs anywhere from $1 a sheet to $6 a sheet, plus two to three dollars in ink.

Looking forward to your pictures!

Unfortunately I have no way to show just how good these prints are turning out unless I ship you some. You can get a taste of it on my Instagram but it doesn’t come through with the depth of a print on fine art Baryta Paper.

AllanK, not looking for prints right now but just wanted to say I like your pics!

Yeah they look better because I take them with a Nikon D500 DSLR and transfer them to my phone as a small 2 mb file. The original file is a lot bigger but you do not need it for instagram. I would actually9 send out prints at my cost if anyone wanted them.

My attempt at tea photography is progressing as I have bought a professional background for my shots and added to my lighting. If anyone is wanting prints I am willing to sell them at my approximate cost, plus shipping and the cost of the boxes I bought to ship prints in which is $4. Mr Mopar just received a bunch of prints I sent him and he reported back that he liked them. The approximate cost of a 13 × 19 print is between $3 and $8 depending on the paper I use. The cheap paper still produces nice results and is $1 a sheet from Canon. Ilford produces an incredible paper at about $3 a sheet. Moab a great paper at $4 a sheet, and Hahnemuhle at $6 a sheet. The approximate cost of ink for such a large print is about $2 to $3. If you are interested in learning more feel free to PM me.
