I’ll also mention that from what we’ve been able to see in our limited ability to investigate the issue, while there are likely bots who are creating accounts, we think it’s likely that the ones posting content (creating forum posts, teas, places, companies, etc) are humans. It’s a pretty common practice to farm out this type of cheap link spam work (often to places like India and China) where they have tons of low wage labor paid to spam as much of the internet as possible in order to boost a company’s search ranking. So stopping a human from posting spam will likely be close to impossible for us, but like I’ve acknowledge before, there are other ways to help minimize the impact of that spam and remove it more quickly, which we unfortunately aren’t are able to support well now.
