Most expensive matcha

Does anyone know what the most expensive organic Ceremonial Grade matcha (price/gram) available in the US is? Normally I factor shipping into the total cost, but I’m looking for highest product price. I’m a self admitted matcha addict and have been proclaimed a matcha master by several and would like to conduct an experiment. I have a matcha that I absolutely love that costs 16 cents/gram. I now would like to compare this to the most expensive matcha I can find. I did the obvious and searched for “most expensive matcha”, but I don’t think I’ve found what I’m looking for. It might be Samovar’s matcha, but I’m not sure. Thanks to anyone that can point me in the right direction.

I vote for Samovar. $79 for 1 ounce or 28 grams.

Yes I’m aware of the price. I’m not; however, sure if it’s organic. It doesn’t say so, so I doubt it. I’ll have to e-mail them and ask. If not, it doesn’t qualify for my experiment. I also don’t know if there’s one more expensive out there. It seems like there would be.

Red Leaf just added a few more expensive varieties, this is the costliest of them: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/imperial-matcha-tea-organic.html $79.99 per 30 grams. Ceremonial grade and organic!

Yeah I noticed that- I will definitely be checking that one out further.

Seems like comparing it to the BEST maccha would be more worthwhile… But I suppose that, according to the placebo effect, the most expensive is the best in many people’s minds. Is that the idea?

Well, considering I have not tried every matcha available, comparing it to the best isn’t going to work. And that would also not be the experiment I want to conduct. Nope. No placebo affect in the idea at all. Just wanting to know if price = superior quality flavor.

Actually the finest matchas will not be organic. They are made in batches that are too small to make it worthwhile to conform to organic standards and also need a good deal of nitrogen fertilizer to make the superior quality. We have a very rare and expensive artisan matcha $165 for 30 grams http://www.americantearoom.com/artisan-matcha-hekisui.html (we are the sole source for this in the US) as well as an excellent grade organic ceremonial matcha for $50 per 30 grams http://www.americantearoom.com/premium-ceremonial-matcha-organic-tea.html.

That’s what I assumed (about the organic), but just to make things even I am comparing the most expensive organic ceremonial grade since I’m comparing it to a cheap organic ceremonial grade. I will; however, try the artisan matcha you carry at some point. If I can ever afford it lol.
