David's Tea thermometer not turning on!

Hello! I have a “David’s Tea” thermometer that I use for teas but also to check … the oil temp for making falafels! Well, I’ve done that once, and the thermometer went to 106C and then began its descent … 103C, etc. So it was still working when I washed off the oil. But ever since it’s not shown the display, and makes a ticking sound as if air were forcing out moisture, though the thermometer never was immersed, obviously in the oil or anything else. Is there a fix? Toss it?

Sounds broken to me.

Hmmm… but wondering if maybe you’ve tried taking out the battery and trying a new one. Maybe the battery is shot. It may also be that the falafel cooking temperature is higher than the thermometer is made for and the thing just got cooked?

Ah, well … I guess maybe, hey. I’ll see if I can find how to get the battery out to check …

I have killed thermometers with oil. You need a specialized one that can take that high of temperature.
