Butiki Teas-Sales (Ends Nov 15th): Champagne & Rose Cream, Sourenee, Coconut Cream Pie, Bancha!

New Sales!!! http://www.butikiteas.com/On%20Sale.html. Sale ends Nov 15th!

Champagne & Rose Cream-23% off ($5.00 1/2 oz)
Our luxurious Champagne & Rose Cream pairs our Glenburn Silver Needle with sweet champagne, fresh cream, and delicate rose notes. The initial sip delivers a lingering sweetness and tang of champagne. Rose and cream notes remain long after each sip. The malty flavor of the Silver Needle tea adds to the champagne flavor and there is a bubbliness that can be felt on the tongue. With each continuing sip the rose and cream notes become stronger.

Coconut Cream Pie Rooibos-25% off ($3.75 1oz)
Our new coconut cream pie blend has a much stronger and creamier coconut flavor. The rooibos adds a light graham cracker crust flavor that quickly develops into a rich creamy coconut flavor that lingers.

Organic Bancha-31% off ($3.25 1oz)
Bancha consists of older leaves and stems from fall and winter harvests. Our bancha is sourced from the Kagoshima Prefecture in Japan. This slightly astringent green tea has vegetal notes with a sweet nutty roasted flavor.

NEW-Organic Sourenee Second Flush-24% off ($3.75 1oz)
Our Organic Sourenee Second Flush originates from the Sourenee Tea Estate, which has been operating for more than 100 years and spans almost 137 hectares. The name Sourenee is derived from the word “sour” a medicinal tree that was planted at the estate and “rani” which means queen of the valley. This hand plucked Darjeeling is a second flush tea and is graded SFTGFOP (Special Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe). Burned chocolate and Brazil nut notes are dominant while strong buttery notes appear at the end of the sip and linger. Floral and earth notes are also present. The strong and malty flavors make this tea a fantastic choice for breakfast.

At the risk of sounding ignorant, I have to ask. Is Purple Tea of Kenya actual tea (camellia sinensis) or is it a tisane like rooibos or honeybush? I’ve never heard of it.

After having done some research, it appears that this is a tea. It appears to be a relatively new variety, and rare at that.

Purple tea does come from camellia sinensis. The purple variety is propagated by grafting and cutting as opposed to seeding. The leaves of the plant have a purple-ish hue since they contain high levels of anthocyanin. Due to those high levels of anthocyanin, purple tea is expected to contain more antioxidants than other types of tea. It is a very rare tea and was first made available for sale this year.

Question: So from my understanding “purple” tea refers to the cultivar that the leaves are from rather than how the leaves were processed. Therefore this isn’t a new category of tea but rather a new variety. This being said, that means you can still have black, green, etc teas that are from the “purple” tea cultivar. Is my understanding correct? And if so how has the purple tea that you sell been processed?

Put an order in btw, I’m excited to try it.

That is correct. If my memory serves, I believe this purple tea is processed similar to an oolong. I will double check and get you an answer.

Thanks for the order! As a side note, I find that playing around with time on this tea makes a big difference. I recommend trying different times between 3-5 minutes.

The process is apparently similar to a green but has also been at least partially oxidized.

By the end of the month I will also be getting in a white hand-rolled purple tea.

Also, if anyone is interested in Kenyan teas, I am starting to expand my selection. In addition to the Purple Tea of Kenya, I also have an orthodox black tea (Kenya Kangaita) and within the week will be selling White Whisper and Rift Valley (green).

Thanks for the research and looking forward to trying them, haven’t had much Kenyan tea yet and always excited to try new stuff.

I’ve been really liking some of the Kenya stuff I’ve found recently. In the past I really didn’t find too much from Kenya that interested me.

We would LOVE to review any of your Purple teas over at Sororitea Sisters if you would like us to! :)

That’s funny, I just sent you an email mentioning our purple tea.

Ava-It’s not really appropriate to make sales pitches in another company’s sale thread. I wouldn’t do that to one of your threads.

Glad you said something stacy…I was kind of thinking the same thing

Sil-Glad to hear you were thinking the same thing and that I’m not just crazy.

I think Steepster is a great place for vendors and tea enthusiasts to connect but as tea professionals we should be respectful of each other.

Agreed. Perhaps pop an email to Jason to have these comments deleted? This person is clearly not an active user, and I think it’s highly inappropriate as well.
