New Sales!!! http://www.butikiteas.com/On%20Sale.html. Sale ends August 30th!

Irish Breakfast-26% Off-$3.50 an ounce
Our Irish Breakfast combines our Khongea Golden Tippy Assam and Hattialli Golden Lion Assam with our Organic Ceylon. This strong malty breakfast tea has chocolate, raisin, oak, tobacco, and bready notes with a citrus finish. Irish Breakfast is smooth and sweet with a light astringent finish. We recommend adding an additional 1/2 teaspoon of tea per serving when used with milk or sugar or if a stronger brew is preferred.

Traditional Plum Pudding-26% off-$4.25 an ounce
This tea follows a more traditional form of plum pudding. Plum pudding is cake-like treat that is soaked with liquor, spiced and contains dried fruits and citrus peels. This plum tea has notes of rum, spice, brown sugar, orange peel, and a slight hint of custard. We went very light on the spice and orange peel but added it for a touch of depth and authenticity. This delicious plum, rum, and a touch of spice tea utilizes our Nilgiri Frost Oolong for a weighty body and a hint of sweetness. While tasty on its own, this tea pops with a tiny amount of brown crystal sugar.

Watermelon Xylophone-29% off-$4.25 a 1/2 oz
This delicate tea pairs our lovely Fuding Silver Needle with vibrant amaranth petals and a natural watermelon flavor. We highly recommend drinking this tea warm or with sugar to bring out the natural watermelon flavor. At a high temperature the flavor is not as strong. At a warm temperature, this tea is light and refreshing and starts out with floral and honey notes that quickly develop into juicy watermelon notes that linger. Add a little sugar and the tea bursts with a natural juiciness that tastes like fresh watermelon juice and finishes with floral and honey notes. For information on how we named this tea, check out our blog.

Wild Huangshan Mao Feng-33% off-$3.50 a half oz
Our Wild Huangshan Mao Feng originates from the Daguyun Mountain in the Anhui province in China. Handpicked from wild tea trees at an elevation of approximately 3,500 feet, this gorgeous organic emerald green tea is AAA graded. The tea leaves are carefully withered, roasted, rolled, and dried. Our Wild Huangshan Mao Feng is incredibly sweet with a rich creamy finish. This smooth, silky tea has notes of hazelnut, fresh butter, honey, and tobacco. Some very mild smoky notes peek their way through on occasion.

News
We will be doing a Butiki Teas online garage sale. This includes old teaware inventory, personal teaware from my collection, my mother’s collection (she borders hoarding teaware, I hope she doesn’t read this) and a few teawares from collections of friends. Some of the teawares are used and some are new but they are in excellent condition and we will be offering them at very cheap prices. Mostly, in the $1-$5 range. There is some great stuff in here.

Very Soon: We will be adding Root Beer Float, Birthday Cake & Taiwanese Wild Mountain Black to our site.

We are also currently working on a number of new blends as well as will be adding a few new plain teas.

Aaaaaaaaaaah! It’s almost very very soon! Yay! Also….garage sale? Sounds like fun! When? Tell me mooooaarr! Lol

The garage sale is a bit of a weird idea. My parents were moving to a much smaller house since they are getting older and can no longer manage a larger house. My mom packed up 4 boxes filled with teawares and asked me to sell them. I tried to explain to her that we couldn’t just sell used teaware. She said, “well they’re yours now” and walked away. Hahaha. That prompted me to decide to sell some of my stuff that is cluttering up my house and teaware inventory that is cluttering inventory storage. A few friends also wanted in and I really can’t think of anything else to do with this stuff. There is some glass ware, matcha bowl, sencha pot, 1920s lusterware, cups, teapots, Chinese tea sets, and just a bunch stuff. Basically, I will start photographing some stuff and adding it to the website in batches. I won’t set up photoshoots, so the pics might not be the best. I would like to start adding teawares this week.

That sounds pretty interesting! I could definitely use some new-to-me teaware!

That garage sale sounds awesome! Oh man. I’m kinda excited about it now. Lol!

GARAGE SALE!!??? I am sooooo excited!!! I am a huge bargain shopper and vintage shopper. All my tea ware for the most part is NEW TO ME tea ware from garage sales and good will :)

Great to hear that you guys are interested. I wasn’t sure if this was a little weird.

Loving the garage sale idea :D

The garage sale sounds fun!

New Sales!!! http://www.butikiteas.com/On%20Sale.html. Sale ends September 30th!

The Black Lotus (English Breakfast)-29% Off
This English Breakfast blend combines the best of three worlds, including some of our favorite teas from three different regions. Our Premium Taiwanese Assam adds chocolate and raisin notes and delivers a delicious malty flavor, while the Giddapahar Darjeeling Extra Special conveys almond, jasmine, and citrus notes. Finally, the Congou Keemun adds a touch of earthiness and mushroom notes. These premium teas blend well together to create a complex malty yet smooth breakfast tea that merits the name The Black Lotus.

Mango Lassi-40% Off
Our exotic dessert blend combines luscious mango with a touch of spice and a hint of cream. Rooibos is naturally caffeine-free and originates from South Africa. We recommend adding sugar to this rooibos. Try with our brown crystal sugar.

Oriental Beauty-30% Off
Our Oriental Beauty is organic and utilizes the Chin Xin oolong varietal. Originating from Hungshan in the Anhui province of China, this oolong is crafted by tea master Shan Zhen Chen. Our Oriental Beauty is made from young shoots and is heavily fermented (60-70%), heavily withered (13-25%), and lightly roasted. This gorgeous tea contains leaves that vary in color, including: silver, gold, forest, auburn, cocoa, and charcoal colors. Rich honey notes linger and mingle with apricot, macadamia nut, and orchid notes. Some pastry-like notes are present and pairs well with the sweetness of this oolong, which provides a flavor somewhat reminiscent of funnel cake.

Pistachio Ice Cream-31% Off
Pistachio Ice Cream has an Organic Mao Jian base with generous amounts of roasted pistachios and a dash of lotus stamens. The sweet roasted pistachio flavor is immediately noticed followed by prominent notes of heavy cream. Light notes of vanilla can also be distinguished. Add some sugar to turn this smooth full-bodied tea into a dessert treat that resembles pistachio ice cream.

News
Keeping the news short & sweet, since there will be a lot of new teas coming up in 1-2 months.

I’m trying to understand how a plain tea contest could work. Do you mean for people to suggest plain teas? Or do something creative based on a plain tea? How about an art contest?

Well, since we are having this big custom blend contest it kind of leaves out tea drinkers that only drink plain tea. We would like to do some kind of special contest at the same time and have the prize be some plain teas but we aren’t sure what kind of contest to do.

What kind of art contest did you have in mind?

ifjuly said

an art-and-tea contest sounds awesome! i’m not visually talented enough to enter but i’d love to see the great submissions i know would come in.

ifjuly-Hmmm, well maybe it wouldn’t just have to be visual. Maybe it could music or really any type of art using any medium, cooking, film, dance, mixed media, painting, photography, poetry, story telling, or anything really.

ifjuly said

that sounds fun! possibly harder to judge for you guys, not sure. either way i love seeing the creative things people do when inspired by tea.

Kaylee said

tea fanfic contest!

I like the idea of having a broad definition of art. I object to making cooking one of the categories though – how in the world would you be able to judge that? I guess people could submit recipes, but then you’d have to reproduce all of them and the results would depend on your cooking skills. The other media sound really fun though!

Kaylee-We did remove cooking because you are right, we would have to make everything that was sent in. Though, I am an excellent cook, so cooking skills wouldn’t be an issue. :P

Kaylee said

Somehow that isn’t surprising :) I’m glad my feedback was useful! Now to start work on my tea-themed novella…

Thank you! :) Oooh, tea novella. I like the sound of that!

4 New Teas

Pumpkin Milkshake-Our Pumpkin Milkshake pairs our Castleton Moonlight Darjeeling oolong with pumpkin, vanilla, and cream flavors. Pumpkin and vanilla notes dominate our Pumpkin Milkshake; however, there is a sweet creaminess present that lingers. Some caramel notes can also be detected. We highly recommend adding some brown crystal sugar to transform this tea into a rich, creamy, decadent, vanilla and pumpkin desert treat. http://www.butikiteas.com/Oolong.html

Champagne & Rose Cream-Our luxurious Champagne & Rose Cream pairs our Glenburn Silver Needle with sweet champagne, fresh cream, and delicate rose notes. The initial sip delivers a lingering sweetness and tang of champagne. Rose and cream notes remain long after each sip. The malty flavor of the Silver Needle tea adds to the champagne flavor and there is a bubbliness that can be felt on the tongue. With each continuing sip the rose and cream notes become stronger. http://www.butikiteas.com/White.html

Glenburn Silver Needle-Our Glenburn Silver Needle is malty yet also very sweet. Hay, almond, and juicy peach notes are prominent; however, floral and citrus notes can also be detected. This tea has a rich buttery flavor and creamy texture that lingers long after each sip. For those looking for a great introduction to white teas, we highly recommend Glenburn Silver Needle because it is very flavorful. http://www.butikiteas.com/White.html

Glenburn Estate Green-Our Glenburn Estate Green is graded FTGFOP1 (Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe First Flush) and has a pronounced roasted nutty flavor. Pine, fresh butter, honey, and some mild vegetal notes can also be detected. This tea is savory with a hint of sweetness but has some mild drying at the finish and is a truly addictive green tea. http://www.butikiteas.com/Green.html

The porcelain teaware is so, so beautiful! How good is the seal on the tea jars? Will air and moisture get in relatively easily?

Kaylee-There is a removable rubber ring. I can get the seal pretty tight but have not done the water test yet.

This might be a silly question, but all the new teas are showing up for me when I browse the different tea sections EXCEPT the pumpkin milkshake oolong (which is the one I was really interested in) – is that just because it’s the last one to be added or is there some other reason I can’t see it as an individual tea and not just part of the autumn sampler?

Roswell Strange-I think there is an issue with cookies. Can you try refreshing the page? It is showing up for me just fine on the oolong page.

Yup! That’d do it! Thanks very much – I’m able to see it now.

Excellent! :)

Our Organic Sourenee Second Flush originates from the Sourenee Tea Estate, which has been operating for more than 100 years and spans almost 137 hectares. Burned chocolate and Brazil nut notes are dominant while strong buttery notes appear at the end of the sip and linger. Floral and earth notes are also present. Must… have… Vanilla Frosted Carrot Cake… inadvisability of drinking black tea be darned…

Kaylee-If you would like a different base tea, let me know. I can make a small batch for you while I’m working on the larger batch.

Kaylee said

That would be amazing. Thank you! Literally any base other than a black tea would work. Maybe Nilgiri Frost Oolong, Oriental Beauty, or a pu’erh?

OMG, I might want in on that…

Kaylee & Stephanie-I’m happy to use whatever tea base you guys would like. I would choose something bready though, since our current base is very bready and if you don’t chose a bready base you may lose out on some of the cake feel. The only issue is timing and it would have to be before the next batch is made since we will be making the last 2 batches together.

Kaylee said

Any thoughts on what would make a good bready (non-black) base?

I wonder if the Glenburn Silver Needles would be good as it is pretty malty. I’m not sure about caffeine content on that though. Our new Doke Rolling Thunder might be a good option. That too is malty and its an oolong. The Nilgiri Frost Oolong might also be an interesting option even though its not very bready. I like your idea for OB, since its sweeter, that could play nicely with the carrot.

Kaylee said

I’m a little burned on the Glenburn Silver Needles ATM because I’m not a huge fan of the Champagne & Rose Cream. The Doke Rolling Thunder sounds like an exciting option though! Stephanie, do you have a preference?

Rolling thunder works for me :)

Kaylee said

Awesome! Stacy, what’s the minimum order here?

Kaylee-Oh no, sorry to hear the Champagne & Rose Cream didn’t work for you. We can do a minimum of an ounce. Keep in mind you won’t be able to reorder.

Kaylee said

That is an excellent point. Ok, I want two ounces (still trying to keep my cabinet under control). Yay! So excited!

Kaylee-I will let you know the cost. Give me a day or two and I will get back to you.

Stephanie-Let me know if you are interested.

Kaylee said

No problem, take your time.

Jes select said

Oooo I would absolutely love that as well. Huge carrot cake fan, but don’t do well with black teas

Just one ounce for me :D yay!

Kaylee & Jes-So, we ran out of the first batch of Vanilla Frosted Carrot Cake already. I wasn’t expecting it to be this soon. I will need to make the rest as soon as possible (meaning probably tomorrow night), which would mean I would need payment tomorrow before I make the last 2 batches of this tea. So sorry to spring this on you guys. The tea would be $6.99 an ounce plus shipping, the same price as the original carrot cake. I will contact you guys through PM.

Stephanie-Your 1 ounce of the Rolling Thunder Vanilla Frosted Carrot Cake is already secure.
