Worst Tea Experience?

Mine was a pu-erh…still trying to forget it. I think thats why I am so afraid to try them.

My worst tea experience involves one of those sleepytime blends. I used (and admittedly abused by consuming alcohol right beforehand) several pots of this tea over the course of a week only to be thrown into horrific vivid nightmares everytime I went to sleep. ACK! I hate that stuff and I’ll never use it again.

My worst tea experience has happened twice now. A few years ago I threw my laptop and a container of tea in the floor of my car on the way home from work. The supposedly leak-proof container wasn’t so leak-proof and my laptop was soaked in tea and ruined. I got a new laptop and just in November was sitting at my kitchen table working on homework with a big travel mug of tea. Our two cats were in a playful mood and when one of our dogs barked the cats got really excited and took off across the table and yep, there went the mug of tea all over my opened laptop. All that wasted tea, and a ruined laptop! Noooooooo!

Are bugs in tea common? Maybe I should be looking closer at my tea leaves. Blech.

I see there are several stories of bad outcomes from the generosity of others, trying to accommodate our tea habits :)

I was volunteering at an event early one cold fall morning, and a fellow volunteer called to ask about how we liked our coffee- she wanted to bring us all some from her house. I tried to politely decline, telling her I did not like coffee. She asked if I liked tea, I said sure, knowing that even if it was a grocery store teabag, that I would welcome almost anything warm on such a cold morning.

What I did not think about was her drinkware. She brought everyone’s drinks in the usual plastic travel mugs. I am sure it was clean, but there is no getting the taste of coffee out of a regularly-used plastic mug.

I think she gave me some fruity Celestial Seasoning tea. But is was so thoroughly contaminated with the taste of goodness-knows-what flavored coffee, cheap creamer, etc. It would not have been so bad if i did not hate the taste of coffee so much.

But she was kind enough to go to a lot of effort, and I certainly did not want to hurt her feelings. I spend the next two hours trying to slowly pour the obnoxious liquid out onto the ground when she had her back turned!

I don’t know why but this thread has been wildly entertaining to read, not that I am without sympathy for all who have gone through these nightmarish teaxperiences!
For me it is a montage of being without tea first thing in the morning: traveling, being a guest, sleep-overs, and the like. I just want tea the very first moment I wake up, and not to be able to have it feels so wrong. Even during trips where I would bring my own tea, there’d often be microwaved tap water given to me, no milk, or coffee flavored receptacles in which to heat the water (motel rooms), and even, ok, I know I’m a big whiner now, but even there is a S.bux, if I did not think to bring a travel mug or have lost it…paper cup? Paper flavored tea!! Sadness—!
