Help greatly needed in identifying a tea set
I am looking for someone who could help me identify a tea set from the late 1960’s in the U.K.(this is for a research project). I don’t see an option for photo attachme, but if anyone feels inclined to help me my email address is [email protected]
Best regards, Andy
Do you have a bottom stamp from a plate? Replacements.com has tons of photos of china sets and I bet you could get at least someplace on just googling it within websearch or images.
No, I am just going by a photograph that was taken in 1970. I am trying to identify the maker by the design on the cup and pot in the photograph. I really appreciate the tip, I will try that!
Here is a link to the photograph in question on flickr:
It should be a photo of Jimi Hendrix at a table with a tea set—which is the one in question. Or a google search of “Jimi Hendrix’ last pictures” will produce the images of him with the tea set. Thank you
Didn’t even notice the tea set in the photo. Do you have the actual tea set? I think it would be nearly impossible to identify it from that photo alone.
No, unfortunately I only have the photograph to go on. I took @gingerbread’s advice and filled out an identification request form with replacements.com. Fingers crossed that they can assist. I thank everyone who has responded.
I think this is the image: https://imgur.com/gallery/9OD0sWR
No idea on the tea set, though.
I think this is the teapot:
I believe that is it!! How did you find the pattern so quickly!??
You don’t know how much I appreciate your help!!! Thank you!!!
Can you tell if the tea cups are part of the same Indian Tree line or do they look like a similar pattern to the Indian Tree teapot?
The images are not great, but it doesn’t look like the cups match the teapot. To me, the cups look like they have roses on them. They also don’t match the images for the Indian Tree cups I found online:
Same for the sugar bowl:
You’re right. Also, what appears to be a Greek key motif around the teacups is doesn’t match the color of the one around the teapot. It looks like a mix-and-match set. Any recommendations? Should I start searching by teacup silhouette and pre-1970 “Made in England” or does it look like they could be inexpensive restaurant teacups? Thank you so much for your advice!
I will definitely investigate that! I thank you for taking the time to help me in this teacup indent quest!!!
I took a look at that pattern on Google. The cups look the same to me. I noticed that there is slight variation in the pattern depending on year of manufacter too.
I have tried several variations of “JBIT” keywords through Google images and I have only found variations of that particular pattern that is on the teapot in the photo. I suspect that the teacups are by another manufacturer as I have not seen a Johnson Brothers pattern that matches. Also, the two tea cups in the photo appear to be different sizes and shapes, but with the same pattern. Are there names for the different teacup silhouettes/shapes that may help me narrow things down a bit? Thank you for your reply!
