African black teas

Hello dear tea brothers and sisters,
I would like to talk about your experiences with African black teas. It seems like they are somehow underrated and ignored in general tea discussions. After all, I read African teas are highly valued in English blends for their sharpness and body.
I have drunk Tanzania Luponde, but it was long time ago. I only remember that it had very soft, mellow, comforting taste. Like a hug in a cup.
Right now I am drinking Ruanda Rukeri. It has a bright, amber color. Tastes like high quality Assam. Airy, floral, malty. I would say it tastes like a classic, traditional cup of black tea. Not too fancy nor complex. Rather down to earth and simple.
I am curious about your opinions. Let me know.
Cheers!
Stan

I’ve never seen single-origin African teas labeled as such.

My wife’s stepmother is from Kenya. She gave me a box of Kenyan tea bags that remind me a lot of Yorkshire gold – solid English-style tea.

Harney & Sons sells several African black varieties, mostly from Kenya it seems. You can find them on their “teas from other regions” page: https://www.harney.com/collections/all/teas-from-other-regions

I haven’t tried any of the black teas, but I did enjoy their African white tea, which they call “African antlers.”
