I have. My teabook run by Jeffrey McIntosh at the time, commissioned a ripe puerh that had agar wood in the mix. I bought a sample pack. So delicious and a wood spice that goes forever. Mouth watering just thinking about it.

Do you have any scientific studies to back up any of those claims?

AllanK said

I would like to see a scientific study for this too or I assume it is all horse manure. Another way to part me from my money. I don’t need more of those.

Unfortunately you have to purchase the article in order to read more than the abstract. I am not interested enough to purchase articles on potential scientific studies. If they are available for free that is a different story.

Ok, so I read the paper from lower in the thread and here some some highlights (taken directly word-for-word from the study)
-—————————-
The constituents in agarwood include epoxychromones and syringaresinol,8 sesquiterpenoids and their oxygenated derivatives,9 3-phenyl-2-butanone, alpha-guaiene, alpha-agarofuran, beta-agarofuran,10 kusunol[11,12] as well as agarospirol and jinkoh-eremol.[10,11,12]

In both assays, AEO caused similar trend of reduction in cell number after 24 h of exposure. More than 50% cell kill was observed when cells were treated with 0.2 mg/ml AEO suggesting that AEO may have cytotoxic activity (see cell viability). Nevertheless, the reduction of cell number seen in the cell viability study could also be a cumulative effect of AEO as anti-attachment agent (preventing cells to attach to substrate and or causing cells to detach from substrate). Taken together, the observed cumulative effect is particularly interesting for the development of anticancer treatment or prevention at pre-metastatic level.

In conclusion, based on the simple screening procedures (cell viability assay and cell attachment assay) as well as cytotoxicity assay (SRB assay), AEO was observed to possess anticancer activity towards MCF-7 breast cancer cells. The findings offer evidence to further support the traditional uses of AEO to treat inflammatory related diseases. As such, this warrants further research to investigate the mechanism of actions of the AEO for better understanding and positioning of the essential oil as potential remedy for cancer
-—————————————

Now, while some anti-cancer activity was found in this paper, I’d like to point out that ingesting agarwood as a beverage or medicine is completely different from dissolving it in a buffer and putting it on top of cell culture in-vitro. We don’t know that the compounds in agarwood would survive the digestive process, be taken up by the body, be circulated in the blood, or be taken into tissue. The study only shows that it inhibits some cancer cells in a tissue culture in a petri dish. This is not the same as inside the body. The tissue culture is pure cells and has no blood or bodily fluids (ie no proteins or enzymes that could interefere with its activity). It also is not affected by the conditions in the body (temperature, pH, salinity). This study shows promise for the concept, however without further research on live animals, there isn’t any support for agarwood having anti-cancer properties when ingested.

Interesting and your point is very good. Big difference to what it does in a petri dish and what it does when drank as a tea in the human body.

I know nothing of agarwood tea but this looks like an interested read. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4080497/

Has a lot of reference of studies. I just found this today. haven’t had a chance to read through the whole thing yet.

I notice that you claim Agarwood tea will remove alcohol from the body. I seriously doubt this claim. Unless you have tested this claim using a breathalyzer I think this is nonsense. The only thing sure to remove alcohol from the body is time.

Hurray! we finally have a perfect cup of tea. all 6 points are highly demanded on market and ranked in top levels of searching key words.
It’s just the best drink for everybody, like a “life water” .
Sorry, I’m not a chemist , but looking at all those curves , milligrams, micro-grams , % etc. I believe other scientist would prove you that you can get the same from some vegetable salad with extra olives on top , or something. But anyway, good marketing , I should write something like that about our shu puer….by the way, that works on hang over,…I tried my self. :-)

It seems to me that the original poster of this thread has not responded to any questions or am I just somehow missing his response. Perhaps he thinks that he can post his website name on Steepster and magically gather sales. It is not that easy to sell tea to people on Steepster as post a website.
