What do people think about Tea Trekker ?

RE: “LOL – I have been buying teas from all over the world for over a decade at the rate of $8000 – $10000 USD/ a year. Glad you like them, but I am comparing that particular batch of teas to some of the best teas exported from China.”

Gaius Gracchus your tasting notes show three reviews for tea from Teavivre.

Could you update your reviews as to why you do or don’t like a tea.

Cheers.

I will add them as time permits. I left a lot of reviews on other sites, and will probably start adding some here, but I have to say – I am not inclined to add them on demand.

Hardly a demand, more a response to sweeping statements. ;-)

Oh, and here’s another sweeping statement – I forgot to mention that TeaVivre has phenomenal customer service. Great people to do business with, for sure.

Yes, you are right about that – they are better than the normal US based vendor’s quality.

I just was really disappointed when I tried several of their teas in comparison to what I usually get.

But, like I said, their customer service was very good. They took the teas back no questions asked.

My latest orders from TeaTrekker have been pretty amazing. There are some that are not as good as others, but their Longjing Meijiawu Village was very good, as was the Anji Baicha. So far this year I have gotten about $8000.00 worth of tea from various vendors and TeaTrekker’s better offerings were some of the best we’ve tried this season. Their Longjing Weng-jia Shan was good, and their Lu Shan Yun Wu was also nice. Some of their lesser Longjings we did not feel were particularly good – lacking in complexity and sweetness, but the higher end ones were certainly worth the price.

It is great that you have found some tea sites that you like so much. While I haven’t tried TeaTrekker, my views on Teavivre are a bit different. In my experience, Teavivre has a decent price/quality ratio, but the quality is only ‘ok’. There are many vendors with much better teas, but also typically more expensive.

Teavivre isn’t a “bad” vendor in this sense… you just get what you pay for.

UPDATE: Well, we’ve continued buying large quantities of tea from Tea Trekker. Good stuff! Like any seller, they have some really great teas and some middle of the road. Their 2018 An Ji Bai Cha was silky smooth and elegant. Their 2018 Longjing Meijiawu Village was stunning! One of the best we’ve EVER tried. Complex, sweet, smooth – magnificent. The closest thing to that level was the higher grades of a great year from AmazingGreenTea (all very pricey). Sad to say, TeaTrekker is sold out of both of them. :0( In fact, TT sold out of the Meijiawu almost immediately this year. That being said, TeaTrekker’s other Longjings were not our favorites. Good, but not as good as others from different sellers at the same price, in our opinion. However, TT has very nice Lu Shan Yun Wu (Clouds & Mist). It is one of our favorites and we buy it in quantity from them.
Yunnan Sourcing, while good, has not been at the same level as the highest grade teas from TeaTrekker, AmazingGreenTea or even Tea Vivre. However, it is cheaper, and for good quality tea at a cheaper price they are pretty solid. We are still getting good teas from TeaVivre, but we pick and choose and buy smaller samples each harvest to see what they are like for the year. TeaVivre has some of the best Longjing for the price point. You also will find batch variations with most of these distributors, so we try to order a lot quickly if a sample seems good.
At this point we buy most of our tea from TeaTrekker and TeaVivre, and have focused on their highest grades of tea. For our everyday Longjing, we are buying from TeaVivre. (TeaVivre has the most amazing customer service we’ve ever encountered anywhere. Super fast response and they stand behind their products 100%. Love them!)

Oh, some of the nicest Bilochun has been from AmazingGreenTea. However, it is also very $$$$.
