Any interest in a Dammann Frères group order? (US/Canada)

Hi everyone! I’m planning on making an order from Dammann Frères soon (mostly because of the advent calendar) and was wondering if anyone else would like to do a joint order. Their shipping can be a bit stiff to the US – starts at about 12 EUR and goes up quickly from there. So I figured I’d open it up for others to order with me so we can save on shipping costs and potentially try more teas.

FAQs:

Q: What is a group order?

A: A group order is when multiple people make a joint order from the same company to split the shipping cost or try more teas. The organizer (me) will take payment from the other individuals via PayPal and then pay for the combined order. Once the joint order arrives, I will divide up the teas and ship each person their order.

Q: Why would I want to do a group order?

A: Ordering as a group is great way to mitigate high shipping costs. Not only that, it also presents the opportunity to order teas in a smaller size than the company offers. For instance, Dammann Frères offers a minimum weight of 100g. If there are 2 or more people interested in the same tea, we can order one 100g bag and split it between all interested parties.

Q: What is the order going to cost me?

A: The total cost of the group order per person will be the cost of their requested teas, plus their share of the original shipping cost (so the total shipping divided by all participants), plus the cost of shipping their share of the order from my home to theirs (including shipping materials, tea packing materials, and the shipping price via USPS).

Q: How will the group order be organized?

A: I will be running the group order out of a discussion topic. Once we start, each person will have a few days to browse the Dammann Frères website and choose their teas. Participants can discuss among themselves whether they would like to share teas. I will then send PayPal invoices to all participants. Once the majority of invoices are paid, I will place the order. Any available tracking information will be shared. After the order is received, I will notify participants as soon as their orders are sent, and send the tracking information via PM.

I will also likely construct a spreadsheet that everyone can view to track which teas will be ordered, and the weight each participant will be receiving, as well as the cost.

Q: What do you (the organizer) get out of this?

A: I only get the same benefits as all the other participants (cheaper shipping, smaller tea sizes). I do not receive any additional compensation for being the organizer.

Q: What about non-US participants?

A: I am absolutely open to international shipping. The only issue is, I’m not sure it would be worth it (for the participant) due to the high shipping cost. I would suggest checking how much Dammann Frères charges for shipping to your country if you are outside the US, and comparing that with how much it would cost for me to ship something to you from the US (Texas).

Please reply if you are interested in joining or have other questions! I know it’s a bit of a wall o’ text but I wasn’t sure if people commonly do group orders around these parts anymore.

Note: Your name, home address, and email address (for PayPal) will NOT be shared with any other participants. I will request this personal information via PM only.

I would, but I still have some of the last DF group order because it was so awesome, I was able to try most of what I wanted to try. haha. I’m also confused as to why the tea options now say 100grams of satchets? Hopefully others are eventually interested.

It’s no big deal if no one’s interested right now. I’m thinking I may try a different advent calendar this year.

Out of curiosity, how long ago was the last order?

I had to look at my Steepster messages and it was around Nov 2016.

Okay, thank you. :D

I would be interested if you need another joiner. (However,
I am in no rush bc damn, I have a lot of tea.)

Don’t we all? ;)

We definitely need at least a couple more interested parties for it to be worth doing a group order.

Not sure on the advent calendar availability, but there is a local shop here in KC that sells DF. I could ask her if you want? I know she has quite a few teas though not everything. Maybe save the shipping from Europe?

I’d totally join if more people are needed, but I’m Canadian!

Hm well I think we have all Canadians interested so far, so we could potentially just make a it a Canadian-based group order and have one of the Canadian participants receive and divvy up the teas. Then only I would need to pay for international shipping.

It looks like everyone who’s interested so far is in Canada.

So I’m thinking it would make a lot more sense to make this a Canada-based group order, and have one of you lovely Canadians receive the order and then send out the teas. That way I would be the only one who would have a high shipping cost, and since I’m in the minority I think that’s fair.

So is there anyone willing to be the order divider and shipper person? I can still organize the order and manage the PayPal invoices, et cetera.

Cameron B, you and I need to chat. I’m in the same area you are, though from your job description probably not the same part of town. I SO don’t need more, but would be willing to chat about this group order and/or future ones. Advent calendars are fun, as are finding new vendors! (Also, I have some tea I’m looking to get rid of that’s still perfectly good, just not my cuppa, and I just don’t have the energy to organize an official swap or giveaway. A local handing over at lunch, or something, is totally doable!)
