I went matcha-crazy! Decided to experiment with some of the cool bases.

After my certificate and the free shipping promo, this cost me $1.57.

I don’t even understand how they stay in business with all the certificates…but I love it!

I’ve only tried the green, so I thought I’d branch out a bit this time. The black just seems like it’d go really well with cookies & cream!

I had a butterscotch rootbeer at our local Art Walk yesterday …. It was SO SO good! I have been craving all things butterscotch lately and the butterscotch rootbeer was amazing. Well since I am about out of Pot o Gold – the only butterscotch tea I have other than the matcha which is my favorite matcha flavor by the way … I thought hummmm 52 Teas has that Butterbeer … so I got it.

BUTTERBEER‽‽‽ [The Harry Potter nut begins to hyperventilate] [Scurries off to check out the 52Teas web site]

My wallet curses you and I thank you for this information. :D

Azzrian said

Oh yes Butterbeer FOR the harry potter fanatics!
I think it is about 9 dollars (ish) shipped.
I will share with you if you can’t buy right now but remember – when they are gone they are gone – unless he reblends which is a risk … so if you REALLY want a full package you better go buy SOON otherwise I can give you half of mine – PM me!

Thanks so much for the offer. I started putting together a 52Teas order and couldn’t stop adding to it. I blame you! =)

Azzrian said

Happy to Help spread the addiction :)

The butterbeer is really awesome. And I do feel a little responsible, because I’m the one who told Frank he needed a butterbeer blend, and gave him the idea for the basic blend (although I suggested anise instead of licorice root).

Y’know, I’d just gotten over my whole Harry Potter thing (where by “thing” what I really mean is obsession), and then @Azzrian had to go and tell me that there’s a @52teas Butterbeer tea. So naturally, I had to get it. And now I have to re-read the books. And re-watch the films. And play both LEGO Harry Potter games. On both the iPad and the Xbox. Yes, have to. So…

Cucumber Kiwi Honeybush. It’s not the most highly rated tea, but after reading LiberTEAS’s tasting note, I really want to try it iced.

Butterbeer black tea. I’m a bit scared because based on Steepster reviews I have really high expectations of this. I read every review from our Steepster family members, and unless I missed something, I think I’m the only one who’s been to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and had the butterbeer they serve there at the Hog’s Head Pub. And by had I mean that I guzzled several pints of it over two days, along with iced pumpkin fizz. So we’ll see how this goes, but I’m hopeful. =)

Pancake Breakfast. Because, well, pancakes. Maple. I love sweets. I have a whole mouth full of sweet tooths. (I know it’s “teeth,” but it sounds wrong in this context.) So ya. I’m going to sweeten this with cream honey. And then, later, I’m going to try sweetening it with a touch of maple syrup. I know, crazy, right? We’ll see. It could be gross, or it could make my eyes bug out of my head with how amazingly awesome it is.

Piña Colada Honeybush. This one’s mostly for Mum. She loves piña coladas and I thought she might enjoy this.

I’ve been to the WWoHP too (I live a couple hours from it). I’ve had both the cold and frozen Butterbeers (I like cold better). Haven’t tried the butterbeer yet (I’m hesitant because it has licorice). I have a sample around, though, so I will soon.

Also, Pottermore sorted me Ravenclaw, which I’m happy with – but I really feel I’m more Hufflepuff. What about you?

Azzrian said

I love how you did links for all the teas – thats cool.
Also really enjoyed hearing your reasonsing for ordering each one.
Neat way to post!

Rachel – I do not like anise or licorice (unless its cherry) and this tea did not bother me one bit – I quite liked it.

Nik select said

@Rachel, I look forward to reading your thoughts on the tea! I used to live in Orlando, but the theme park was built after I left. My ex and I made a special trip on the weekend Deathly Hallows (Part 1) opened so we could watch it there. A memorable trip! =) Like you, I had both frozen and cold butterbeer and was really surprised by how different from each other they are. Like you, I also liked cold better than frozen (another surprise). I love licorice, but it doesn’t (shouldn’t) feature prominently in butterbeer, so I’m hoping that I end up agreeing with @Azzrian’s assessment. =)

@Azzrian, thanks for the kind words. I tend to go on a bit; I’m glad it’s not boring. =)

Azzrian said

Not boring at all!

I do have a couple of 52Teas in your sampler box that is on the way to you Nik, but none of those that you just ordered. I think you’ll be happy with these… the pancake one is incredible, as is the butterbeer. Well, so are the other two. LOL I love Frank. If I wasn’t married, I would so have a very lusty affair with him.

I feel like I should add that I got the Reichenbach Recovery blend from Adagio on top of the Sherlock and TARDIS blends I mentioned previously. And that I plan on getting a matcha from Red Leaf Tea at some point, in the very near future (been eyeing the chocolate or the mocha one for quite some time).

Side question, I’m aware that having a sifter-type-thing is very useful in getting rid of clumpiness, but is the bamboo whisk/scoop/“other scoop thing I sometimes see in a set” necessary, or could I just either shake the matcha up in a tumbler or use a regular kitchen eggbeater whisk thing?

Uniquity said

I know of a bunch of fellow Steepsterites who whisk with a fork, a kitchen whisk or shakin’ it (like a polaroid picture!) I think especially if you are just starting out you don’t need to invest in a whisk. I did, but that’s because I’m a sucker for tea things. : )

Azzrian said

Yeah like Uniquity said you don’t need one – there are some pretty cheap ones on amazon though – check the recent matcha threads here for more info too – there have been several lately. Overall though you don’t need anything fancy at all.

Ag select said

Ah, okay. Thanks for the advice, Uniquity and Azzrian! :)

Hi Ag! I have just been using a small blender similar to a magic bullet. It works really well =)

I mentioned yesterday in one of my tasting notes that I thought my order would be delayed because of the tendency to skip the neighborhood once every couple of weeks. Well, I’m happy that didn’t happen yesterday, because my order from Monday did arrive yesterday! yay!

Five new Matcha from Red Leaf Tea:

Brandy
Cotton Candy
Hazelnut
Licorice
Pumpkin Pie

I also placed an order yesterday, because well, I guess I needed more Matcha. haha!

Bavarian Cream
Cookies & Cream
Cinnamon
Gingerbread
Lavender

sigh

Alphakitty said

That is a LOT of matcha! o_o I’ve been curious about the Lavender for a while, looking forward to your tasting notes!

I just made my biggest tea order ever to restock favourites (okay, a couple new ones jumped in the cart too). All DT stuff:

Pumpkin Chai
Read My Lips
Blueberry Jam
The Earl’s Garden (couldn’t wait until my current earl grey was finished, nope)
Toasted Marshmallow
Mother’s Little Helper (although between work and school I’ve been having no trouble getting to sleep lately)

And…the David’sTea/Bodum travel press in teal. Finally, I can take a big ol’ cup of tea to class in the evening.

Azzrian said

Congrats on your order! I bet you can’t wait to get the Bodum! Neat that it comes in Teal!!

Thanks! I’m VERY excited to get the Bodum!

How did you manage an activiTEA (free w/ $39 order)? I want to know! :-p

Uniquity said

River Song! : )

Rachel – It was a promotion that ended yesterday! Do you get Adagio’s e-mails? They have promotions pretty regularly!

Uniquity – I’m really excited to try that one! I’m making my way through the Doctor Who teas.

Took advantage of free tumbler with $39 order that I just received via email. This offer is obtained by click through so no code to share :-( , only that offer expires Sept 20. I clicked again and another free ActiviTEA was added to my shopping cart. I guess it’s possible someone could request to have an order placed through me but we’d have to figure out payment since I would have it directly shipped to you. Hmm…
