Beauty products that contain tea

Cofftea and I just discussed the fact that we both use Alberto V05 Tea Therapy shampoo and conditioner. They come in 3 scents and all contain Camellia sinensis extract.

What other products for bath, body, and general beautifying are out there? (FYI “tea tree oil” which is used in a lot of products nowadays, comes from a completely different plant: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_tree_oil Tea-ful beauty products would make great gifts for the tea lover that already has enough (or too much) to drink!

Bigelow’s lotions/shower gel products are “infused with tea from America’s only Tea Garden”– I have used them and have given as gifts. They are a bit heavily perfumed for my taste, and the scent masks any tea, but my mother and grandmother seemed to like the hand lotion and “body silk”. I use the shower gel as bath oil sometimes. Love the packaging with Spanish moss covered trees from the tea plantation on Wadmalaw Island!

Jason Naturals and Celestial Seasonings (owned by same parent co.) have a line of lotions based on CS tea flavors. There are 4 regular varieties, plus they had a limited release of Candy Cane Lane and Gingerbread Spice in a holiday gift package that came with a box of tea (wish I’d known about it before xmas! It was all gone right after.)

We’re turning the tables a little. We’re working on a cucumber and melon green tea for our Tea of the Week. Every time I smell that cucumber melon soap I think, “I bet that would be a great tea”. So, we are trying it.

cool – sounds very refreshing and “spa-like” :-)

I have a cucumber melon blend on Adagio. For as much as I do not like melon teas, it’s quite good. It’s blended w/ cream flavored tea as well.

I have an “invigorating Bath tea” from Harney & Sons. I don’t think they make it anymore, buts it’s really just green/herbal tea with a reusable sachet that you put in your bathtub. This one is mainly LEmon Verbena, peppermint, and sencha.

Any herbal would work fine in a bath I’m sure. Most white or green teas would probably be fine too. I"m considering using my Boston Tea Co. Pineapple Paradise (a tropical green/herbal blend) as bath tea when this runs out!

I found this as I was washing up — Rodan & Fields, proactiv solution, Green Tea Moisturizer, non-comedogenic, soothes & calms dry skin, by Guthy-Renker.

NCN Pro Skincare (an online skincare company) has a new Green Tea Serum with 5% Organic Japanese Green Tea Extract (Camellia Sinensis 3%): http://www.ncnproskincare.com/virtuemart/15257.html

I’ve ordered from them before and their products are very good (like the Pro Pumpkin Peel and Matrixyl Serum). I haven’t tried the Green Tea Serum yet, but it looks interesting—it’s supposed to help boost the effectiveness of LED light treatments. I have an LED device and it’s supposed to be amazing for the skin, but I’ve just been too lazy to use it regularly!

A couple yrs ago The Body Shop had a green tea fixing hair gel… unfortunately they got rid of it! It’s the only hair gel I I’ve found that I like. Does anyone know where I can find something similar?

I just saw an ad on TV for St. Ives cleanser and scrub with green tea. Here are the product pages. I really like the flash animation of the growing green tea plant, and the fact that their claims seem reasonable. Green tea is antioxidant rich, fights free radicals, and reduces redness. The active ingredients appear to be salicylic acid and natural green tea.

Has anyone used tea to make your own beauty treatments?

I’m pretty minimalist when it comes to beauty products, which works out fine for me since they can get expensive. But every once in a while it’s fun pamper myself a little, and it seems like tea would be great to incorporate into a homemade facial mask, foot scrub, or something like that.

It might also be a good way to get rid of sub-par teas without just tossing them. :)

Cofftea said

No. It just seems like a horrible waste of tea to me:)

I do drink less expensive tea than you do. ;) I’m not saying to use the good stuff – but maybe some stuff that’s sat in the cupboard for a year or two, or was so horrible you wouldn’t want to give it away.

Expensive or cheap doesn’t matter- I wouldn’t want to waste good tea even if it was the cheapest of teas. Not sure I’d wanna make it w/ stuff I didn’t like either- especially if I didn’t like the smell. And old tea may not have as many benefits as fresh tea.

if i remmeber correctly someone makes a foot scrub out of their spent tea? darned if i can remember the thread – also of course used tea on your eyes helps with puffyness…i don’t see why you can’t blend up used tea leaves and pop into all manner of things to improve them, sorry i don’t have specific recipies
