Strongly flavored mango tea?

I love the taste of mangos, particularly dried mangos. But I’m diabetic and they really spike my blood sugar.

Does anyone know of a mango tea that tastes strongly of mangos? Not a black tea with a hint of mangos, or a hibiscus-rosehip tea with a hint of mangos, or a pineapple flavored tea with a hint of mangos.

Orange mango blend might be ok.

I recently had DavidsTea’s Mango Boost, which I thought wasn’t too bad. It might not be mango-y enough, but it’s worth a try if you can acquire some easily. Lupicia’s Ripe Mango Oolong, if I recall correctly, was also a pretty good mango tea. It’s currently unavailable except through the Ala Moana store, though (there’s a thread about Lupicia closing with more details on it).

Mango Madness and Mango Fruit Punch are two other DT blends with strong mango flavours – Mango Madness is carried year round, but Mango Fruit Punch is usually just sold over the summer time. Personally, I like Mango Fruit Punch a lot more (it’s mango/orange) but if you wanted a tea base/caffeine then Mango Madness would be better.

Also, in the interest of transparency, I do work for DAVIDsTEA so I have some bias in my recommendations for sure – but just something to look at since Kittenna mentioned one of the other DT mango blends (the one she mentioned is mango, lychee, ginger, matcha).

One of the teas I brought back from my visit to Victoria, BC last year was Mango Green Tea from Murchie’s Tea room. It has a really nice, sweet tropical flavor. I wouldn’t say its intensely mango flavored though, more like a tropical medley.

Incidentally, the best mango flavoring I’ve ever had was in Waterloo Sparkling Water. Their Mango flavored water straight up smells and tastes like an Alphonso mango. I wish it could be replicated in a tea somehow.

Heh, I was going to mention Murchie’s Mango as well. There’s a Mango Green, and a Mango Black. Haven’t tried the Green… The Black was fairly strong (could probably be stronger still, but it was definitely strong enough for me, anyhow).

The best mango I’ve ever had was from Lupicia. Now that Lupicia isn’t an option, I’d go with Murchie’s mango green or Love Some Tea’s mango.

Lupicia is still available by phone order from the Ala Moana Hawaii store if you are a US resident (I am uncertain if they are shipping to Canada/elsewhere at this point). They have a flat handling fee and use the USPS flat rate Priority mail for their shipping — the info can be found over in the Lupicia Closing thread. They can be contacted here:

1450 Ala Moana Blvd., Honolulu, HI 96814 (808) 941-5500 [email protected] Mon-Sat 9:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Sun 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Apparently sometime in April they will be setting up their own online portal to make inventory/ordering easier. Phone orders only until then.
