Favorite Teas to Drink Hot on a Cold Day

Fellow Steepsters,

The weather will be changing and it will soon be cold again, hopefully no bizarre weather occurrences this year. I was wondering, what are some of your favorite teas to drink hot on a cold day? Do you have any specialty blends that you would care to share?

Chai is always a hit, honey mead like teas are a must if I can find some good ones, ice wine, earl grey is far more interesting in cold weather for me, Lapsang Souchong is a hit in cold weather as well. Heavier spicier flavors call to me which also includes anything pumpkin related or nutty teas. :)

Black teas. I do black teas a lot in the winter. Assams and Keemuns seem to be my favorite for a cold day. I do Chai as well but only when I want a sweet treat since I only do Chai with rice mylk and sugar.

The colder outside, the stronger, the better! Good solid Union-Jack British builders’ teas like PG Tips or Typhoo; heavy Assams. No milk if you have to bundle up and go outside, milk and sugar if you get to stay indoors under a blankie.

I’d say black teas especially chai. Honestly, I love them in the summer too, so I can’t really say it’s for the winter weather. I just love to drink them lol. I’m thinking Puerh will be pretty nice on a cold day too.

Chai! And oolong! Mostly oolong! Gen Mai cha! There’s something supremely comforting in a hot cup of gen mai cha.

When it’s cold, I love a good chai. I don’t even drink them latte very often any more, it’s good without the milk (I do still add a bit of turbinado sugar to it to enhance the spices), and it warms me right up. I enjoy chai when it’s warm weather too, but it’s so much better when the weather is cooler.

I also prefer pu-erh when it’s cold weather, and yerba mate when it’s cold weather.

Lapsang Souchong is perfect for cold weather and so is Puerh and also Adagio’s Chestnut is very good in the winter :)

Well it really depends, If I’ve been outside shoveling the driveway, and it is before 5pm, then black tea, particularily Earl Grey…Needing to warm up, wouldn’t be in the mood to appreciate more complicated tasting teas. Or Hot Chocolate, with a dollop of Raspberry syrup in it. If general I want tea, then I’ll want something fruity. I try to drink more fruit juices and eat more fruit in the winter, not only for the vitamins but they can also help drive away the winter blah’s. Generally speaking though, I prefer fruity, herbal or rooibos teas. Have yet to come across a hot green tea that I really like. And have only tried 1 white tea so far.
