Common Ground: TEA and Pets :)

I feel that a lot of us have pets that accompany us while we sip our tea. I have always been curious to see if tea people are a majority of Dog people or Cat people, or other varieties of pets!

I love dogs, in particular bulldogs. My Sencha (French Bulldog) is my tea companion, she loves to be scratched and loved while I sip my tea!

I have two Italian greyhounds, but they aren’t interested in the smell of tea. When my family makes coffee they seem to like it more!

Two housecats, a pair of sisters. Luna, who’s grey and white and very cute and pretty, and Charm, tortie, also very cute and pretty. :) Luna especially likes to be on my lap when I’m at the desk, making tea drinking a complicated affair, at least when the cup’s full, as I try not to spill very hot liquid on her. So far no accidents, and maybe I’m paranoid, but still.

Nina, is that Sencha with you in your icon? I never noticed that before!

Yep! Sencha is the French Bulldog next to me :)

I have a Luna too. :)

I have two Boxer’s. Octane is 6 yrs, he’s the white one. Rally Rims is 3 yrs, she’s brindle. They can be a handful at times, but mostly love to cuddle, which works well with my tea habit.

I absolutely LOVE that picture! It’s always the sweetest when they don’t realize there isn’t quite enough space because they want to cuddle so much! I fostered a couple of cats who still share the same bed they did when they were kittens. All of their limbs hang on the outside, but they don’t care they just want to nap together!

Awwww, cute pic! :)

Yeah, they are cuddle bugs. If we can’t cuddle them, they cuddle each other. lol

I have two dumbo rats named Pekoe and Camellia. I know awesome names, right? ;)

I anticipate in the future possibly giving them a few sips of cooled herbal tea. I may even give them some green tea- I’m a little wary of allowing them to consume caffeine but a lot of the studies looking at the benefits of green tea use rats as the test subjects!

I am a huge fan of all animals so I am loving this thread! Keep the posts coming, I love reading about people’s pets!!

I have two little rats, Sox and Cutie, who love to investigate what’s in my cup. Sometimes I’ll even find them stealing a sip :/

I have a holland lop bunny named Benson, just over 6 months old now.

http://youtu.be/pM8Y_U1zPzE – is a video I sent in to DavidsTea (who posted it on facebook/twitter) of Benson playing in a DT box! It’s super cute! All that morning Benson kept jumping in and out of the box.

He’s quite the adventurous bunny, he loves to explore and hide out and play in boxes. He also loves to sprint around my jiu jitsu mats and throw toys around. He’s got a cage, but from like 6am to 10pm he has a large area outside the cage to run around (all indoors).

I’ve owned rabbits before him and lukewarm chamomile tea is a great tummy aid. I tried giving it to Benson once and he was completely horrified with the smell.

We do have a morning tea time, after breakfast I sit with Benson and finish my tea and pet him. I read I can’t really give him tea leaves/caffeine. He could probably eat those fruity herbals teas though. He looooooves strawberries.

Awww, he is super cute. That video was adorable. :)

David’s tea has an album on their facebook about pets and tea :D everything from dogs to a hedgehog :D

I have a chinchilla named Mr. C. He’s awesome and he loves tea. If there is tea around he will desperately try and find a way to drink it. I once left a small puerh disc on a table and went to start some water. When I got back he had dragged it off the table and into a hiding spot where he was eating it. I had to wrestle the rest of it away from him. I’ve since learned my lesson about bringing tea near him. Here’s a pic: http://i1094.photobucket.com/albums/i446/butikiteas/chinchiller.png

Cute little tea lover! hehe

Thanks! He’s such a gentle little creature but also quite a little mischievous devil when he gets in a mood.

They are really cute little animals and soooo soft!

Yes, very soft and smart too.

Awww! too precious! That is so funny that he steals your tea.
He has incredible taste:)

He has good taste with tea, otherwise he will chew anything. I’ve seen him chew cement, wires, wood, and metal but tea he will seek out and no matter where I hide it he will find a way to get it. My little guy is now 16 years old.

Wow! 16! that is awesome.
He sounds like a hoot:)

Definitely, he’s my buddy. :) Chinchillas have an average lifespan of 16 years but can live up to 30 years.

My princess is a cat named Emma. While bacon and yogurt are her favorite things, she has investigated, tasted and spilled my tea more than once. Everything is fair game, in her eyes. We also used to have a hamster named Jake who was the best rodent I’ve ever known but he died a few years back. Ice cream was his special treat – he didn’t care for my tea though :)

There are two furry kids that reside with my husband and me. One is a mini dachshund – Oskar Meyer Whiner, 11 years old. The other a (rescued) dachshund/chihuahua mix – a chiweenie, if you will – Sammie Salami Spicyweiner, 4ish years old.

I’ve made them Doggie Tea on occassion, but they seem to be more interested in what’s in my cup!

Sammie salami spicyweiner. Lol. That is fantastic!!

I was just about to make this topic!
I’ve got Luna (who usually goes by Ooh-Ah), and Chip (who usually goes by Jackie). Rarely do our pets get called by their given names!
Here’s Chip http://www.flickr.com/photos/8126244@N06/7857640092/in/photostream
He’s a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (though obviously not the best bred), 8 years old, and deaf. He’s my fiancé’s dog. He’s usually by my feet while I have tea.
Luna http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h296/kelara/DSC_0143s.jpg when she was a kitten, and now http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h296/kelara/IMG_20120807_125225.jpg she’s got a lot more hair now! Her mane is huge and she gets it stuck in her mouth when she grooms herself.
Got her from a shelter a little over a year ago, she’s my baby. :) I’ve been clicker training her so she’ll usually come over a sit on my lap when I ask, she makes a good tea companion.

That’s some sort of forest cat, yes? I used to have a Maine Coon by the name of Boannan. I thought it was a lovely breed but I couldn’t keep up with the fur, because she hated being brushed. :) It was actually shortly after I lost her that I became exposed to a cat named Luna and decided on the spot that my next kitty should be named Luna. :)

Kiaharii said

I have no idea what she is, some mix most likely. We got her from the shelter where she was rescued from a hoarder’s house. She’s very small though but that could’ve been because of poor nutrition when she was little or she was a runt. I know most of those long-haired breeds are fairy large.

Angrboda said

Yes and they grow slowly. MCs do at any rate. They’re not really fully developed until they’re about four or five years old. But I think it’s posssible that poor nutrition as a very small kitten might have influenced her size too.
